Many junior NHS staff from ethnically minoritised backgrounds face bias from their managers. They are often denied training, sidelined for promotions, and over-scrutinised. Complaints of unfair treatment are dismissed or met with silence.

A Black nursing graduate described how a registrar ignored and sidelined them on ward rounds, assigning them only odd jobs and no teaching.

A 2022 RCN survey found that over 50% of Black and minority ethnic nurses who faced racism chose not to formally report it. This silence is often driven by mistrust in internal complaint systems and lack of visible accountability.
