how would it not be better if just the highest selling version of an album would count for the charts, it would make artist focus on releasing the best version of their album instead of the most no?

🎚️ How to mix vocals like Travis Scott's?
I thought it would be a cool idea to break down how top artists mix engineers achieve certain sound.
Obviously what they do is working and may be you'll find great info and/or inspiration in those breakdowns.
1. Autotune. Travis Scott's vocals often feature heavy tune. Set the retune speed to fastest or close to fastest one, from 0 to 5 and humanization below 15%. Automating pitch correction settings can add dynamic energy throughout the track.
2. Apply aggressive EQ to boost clarity and presence:
• Boost the 10-20 kHz range to add sparkle and air. Really aggressively.
• Control the 3-5 kHz range to ensure you have a great vocal presence without sounding harsh.
• Cut around 250-500 Hz to reduce muddiness.
• Boost very lows for a good body. You must control them tho. May be soothe2 or MB compression. You can boost along with a low cut. I posted about it.
3. Compression is also crucial for Travis Scott’s sound:
• Use a medium-low threshold with a ratio between 4:1 and 6:1.
• Apply a quick attack and short release to maintain vocal dynamics.
• Use a de-esser to control sibilance without compromising clarity.
4. Saturation.
Use some analog like saturation to enhance the body and presence of the vocals. May be analog like devices will be enough. May be you will want additional saturator. Depends on what you will use.
4. Effects.
• Delay: Create trailing echoes using a delay set to ping pong mode, 1/4 note. Don't cut frequencies too much. This delay can be very subtle or very audible, or even change its presence through the song.
Be as creative with delays as you can. There are multiple delays in his songs. Different delays for bridge, hooks and verses will work very well.
• Reverb: Add 2 reverbs. One short for ambience, and one large with nice echo, adjusting them to taste, achieving a spacious sound. May be you will want to sidechain the long reverb from the dry vocals.
• Distortion: Apply subtle distortion to add grit and widen the vocals, may be parallel distortion with a widener.
• Parallel Compression: Slightly add a very compressed copy of the processed vocals, usually it's done via aux channel. 1176 compressor is pretty much universal for this effect.
• Use 1 or may be even 2 chorus effects. This is one of the keys to achieve Travis Scott like sound. Big and upfront vocals.
5. Use a lot of spatial effects on adlibs and create as much movement on them as possible.
Obviously you don't need to copy everything, but at least you might take a few notes for yourself and your future mixes. These breakdowns are not complete vocal mixing guides because there is no context with instrumental. This is mostly stylistic things that are only a part of mixing vocals. In actual job you also want your vocals to be mixed well with instrumental and fit the composition's idea, so more things need to get done of course.
