I just watched this interview of a Korle Bu doctor explaining the strike and I’m honestly angry.
Saying lab professionals “don’t have the training to correlate results with clinical findings” is simply false. Clinical correlation is part of our training. It’s exactly why we ask for DIAGNOSIS on request forms.
You cannot send incomplete forms with no diagnosis, then turn around and say labs can’t correlate results.
ALSO, The claim that labs have been producing “nonsensical” results for 10–15 years is not just inaccurate, it’s reckless. If that were true, we would have system-wide clinical failure, no routine care still functioning across the country.
Lab medicine is not guesswork. It’s a regulated discipline built on SOPs, internal QC, EQA schemes, validation protocols and trained professionals who understand both the analytics and the clinical context.
And since we’re talking about “why tests are repeated” and “why revenue drops,” let’s not pretend there aren’t other drivers. There are well-known practices where requests are redirected to private labs so that you the prescribers get a commission and we know it all too well and that has to be part of the conversation too.
If there are specific cases of poor quality, present the data, audit it, fix it. But blanket statements about incompetence???? After training for 6 plus years I beg to differ!
We all want patient safety. That requires accurate testing, proper clinical information and honest collaboration. Not selective narratives that place blame on one group while ignoring the full picture.

This is the current training curricular of a Physician (Medical Doctor) in deep red and that of Doctor of Medical Laboratory Science in orange at Uhas. Please kindly go through each course and tell me who is best trained to run the Laboratory. You can't abandon what you don't like after so many years to run up to a 3 year program at your college (physicians and surgeons) and claim I was here before, so I want to come back and take back headship. Health practice is not an inheritance, now all healthcare professionals have evolved and are creating their path to the top, please physicians don't be a hindrance to the development of other cadres. How will you guys feel if I say 50% of physicians prescriptions to patients are wrong and some patients have lost their lives through wrong prescription hence, doctors of pharmacy should go and sit beside you guys in the consulting room to review all prescription prescribed by you guys. It will happen soon and there is nothing you guys can do about it. You guys should humble yourselves the days of Medical imperialism is over. Today the doctor of Medical laboratory science undertake a 6 yrs program like you and follow up to specialized for another 5 years to become a specialist while per your current curricular jump from no where to set up a 3 years fellowship program in laboratory medicine. The doctor of medical laboratory science is better trained than you when it comes to laboratory services operations. Humble Yourselves!!!

I did Biomedical science and one day I’ll also tell you guys how I used to see doctors and how my views about medicine have really changed after doing GEMP. There’re PAs, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals in my class who have similar stories as well 😹😹😹

I didn't come to discuss the brouhaha. I said from the very beginning of my opening submission that I don't understand the whole tug of war and thus jumped on the space to get more information. I only jumped in to address the obvious misconceptions like lab physicians are irrelevant and they should stay in the surgical and emergency wards instead of coming into the lab. The concluding part of the space was about leadership of the lab department. The claim that a demand was made for leadership roles to be vested in lab physicians is factually inaccurate. Now you tell me where exactly I was wrong.

The hospital is not a department, it has many departments. Departments are made of professionals from different backgrounds.
Why are you against a policy that makes leadership merit based and opened to all who work in that department irrespective of their profession?

We were all speaking to the release made by the doctors, you coming in to somewhat defend it and still going on to say you need clarification sounds pretty pathetic.
