MIDDLEMEN AND FARMERS DRAMA A lot has been happening around the cucumber market lately which is causing lots of issues for farmers. Sometimes, you will hear some news from the farm that will make your heart cut. We brought 10 bags of cucumbers to you on Saturday, the same day we harvested. The manager was with you for a few hours to study the market and all of that. There was no any complaint. The produce looked firm and was ready to be taken. But a few hours after he left, the man called and started yarning rub*ish. The cucumbers are bitter and can't be sold for 10,000 bla..bla..bla....I've sold just two bags for 9,000 and you need to come and pick the rest or I will dispose them, he added. When the manager reported to me, I told him to tell the man to do all he could to get the remaining ones sold. He reached out later yesterday to say that he sold 4 bags for 6k each and that the remaining 4 bags are still there. The truth of the matter is "the middlemen are the worst enemies of the farmer." After mishandling one's produce, they will sell it at a ridiculous price. Sometimes they earn almost the same amount as farmers. By the time the farmer removes all the expenses including capital, nothing or little is what he or she has left. NOW THE QUESTION IS How do we solve the middlemen and market issue?
