@academic_exit I exited academia 1 year ago and got my first industry role as a senior data scientist and then chief technical officer in the same company 8 months later. So actually we gained many valuable soft skills in academia, best of them are surely accountability, commitment and rigor.

In seeking my first industry role, I had no idea that jobs outside of academia have different *job titles* (since in academia, we were all vying for 1 role with 1 title...)

@KarinaVoggel Simple trick that worked me: leave academia 🙂 I’ve left the field to industry a year ago which was probably one of the best (but tough) decisions I made. Still doing research in astro and learning everyday. Good luck for the applications !

Half the problem is probably that the french system places its deadlines in early january just to full ensure you cannot even enjoy the holidays stress-free.

Ces 7 astres errants ont donné les 7 jours de la semaine. Lundi la Lune, Mardi Mars, Mercredi Mercure, Jeudi Jupiter, Vendredi Vénus, Samedi Saturne et Dimanche le soleil (Sunday). Planète veut d'ailleurs dire "astre errant" en grec!

@Katowange @julie_bv @ArnoudJf @Marme_elade Faux. J’ai obtenu le concours d’entrée de l’ENS Cachan en étant fils d’une mère au foyer sans revenus et orphelin de père après 2 ans de prépa en province. C’était ça ou faire une croix sur mes études. J’ai survécu en prépa grâce à l’assurance-vie de mon père suite à son décès.
