@willovision For twenty-two years, there was an orchestra and conductors from (in the main) the contributing countries. And now, what do we have? Lots of synthesised orchestra tracks accompanying the artists. You can’t tell me it’s money. I refuse to believe it.
70 years ago today in Lugano, Switzerland Lys Assia won “Gran premio Eurovisione della canzone europea” “Grand prix Eurovision 1956 de la chanson européenne” the very first #Eurovision Song Contest for 🇨🇭 Switzerland with “Refrain” (🎞️ by Vincenzo Vicari)
Any Westcountry and HTV Followers? Bruce Hockin and JL over 50 years on from our newsreading days at HTV West. Hadn’t seen Brucie for 25 years. Wonderful meeting up💖💖
@GailRenard My favourite version of that was coined by Graeme Garden on ISIHAC:”There was a crooked man, he walked a crooked mile/He found a crooked sixpence against a crooked style/He bought a crooked cat which caught a crooked mouse/And they all lived together ‘til he fell off his yacht…”
@thetvroom It doesn’t feel so unusual to me, it’s just a fraction faster (it’s nearly a semitone higher in pitch than the usual one) - I’ve read of programmes speeding up their end sigs in the past, but never seen it done live like this (if that’s what happened…)
🟥 REWIND | YT Clip | An unusual variation of the closing theme from the 1988 - 1993 BBC News era.
And an example of the relatively short-lived practice of having the programme title linger after the opening titles.

@whydontyoutube This is my all-time favourite Wogan commentary for this very reason. When he gets to the Polish conductor whose caption flashes across so quickly, and all TW can manage is “Blimey!” before a valiant attempt. Heaven.
30 YEARS AGO TODAY: the Eurovision Song Contest, the one with Gina G and the last to be based entirely on jury voting, goes to Oslo and never mind song nine, it seems like Wogan is already well soused before the start. youtube.com/watch?v=teyhV0…
@Radiojottings@clareteal Alan was an amazing producer and a wonderfully versatile man. I worked with him on many Friday Night is Music Nights and he was so good at drawing the best out of people. And he is as funny as hell.
Born 100 years ago this week (19 May 1926) was that gentleman of broadcasting, David Jacobs. My audio tribute below. His former BBC producer Alan Boyd talks to @clareteal on her Boom Light show today at 4pm

Whilst you’re voting for your favourite country tonight, please take a moment to remember the Legendary Colin Berry, who was the UK spokesperson for 25 years!!📺🎶🇬🇧

@HellenBach Song 9 saw my traditional quaffing of the dairy product, but Graham was right - I don’t think T would have enjoyed that particular song. Or many of them for that matter! 🥹❤️
