@35p_Ramen Unfortunate side effect of the always online nature of society. People are far more interested in others' sadness than they are in their own happiness.

Imagine growing up with something over the course of 12 years to find out it’s coming to an end on a random weekday and then people making fun of you for being upset lmao Tell me your frontal lobe isn’t fully developed without telling me

Normally I don't have much to say here because I find most online discourse is pointless and done in bad faith. I am also just not a particularly interesting person, and I don't imagine anyone gives a shit. That said, I have a bit of a personal stake in this one having seen several snide comments (back to the "pointless and done in bad faith" bit above) about a friend of mine (no free shoutouts, @DattosDestiny , so my Venmo better be screaming soon) becoming emotional over something which admittedly might seem a little silly from an outside perspective. Since he is too much the bigger person to address this, I guess I will because I'm feelin' especially virulent today. So, the two things I've seen more than once (paraphrased). "It's just a game." Yes, you are correct. It is just a game. "The writing was on the wall." Yes, you are correct. This was pretty well expected, I would think, across the community. I don't think anyone was laboring under the delusion that Destiny 2 was either eternal or in a particularly good place, especially as regards the last 2 years or thereabout. Both of those things are true, and neither is either consolatory or relevant to someone having an emotional reaction to something that has been impactful to their life. To default to simplistic points like that is not helpful and ignores the surrounding circumstance of what is actually causing the reaction (which is especially funny to me because the motherfucker lays his reasons for being sad out like a storyboard and ya still can't quite get it). I imagine anyone who might stumble on this ramble (god help you) has probably experienced this, but sometimes shit just hits you. Maybe it's a song you love, maybe it's a book, maybe it's a movie, but unless you are completely vacuous, there is something you cherish that can be written off as "just a" as easily as you can do it for a game. It's just music, dude, why you cryin'? Empty sentiment. Particularly when so much of where you are can be traced to a specific thing, the loss of that thing, temporary or otherwise, will still cause you to think not only of where you are but where you were and how you got here. It is immaterial what that catalyst is, if something sets the wave in motion, the full scope of a period of years can flood you all at once, and I invite you to contemplate how overwhelming a single important event can be emotionally, nevermind a decade's worth hitting you all at once. Is it a silly pew pew game? Absolutely, but that shit just doesn't matter. As far as knowing it was going to happen...yeah, it's not (and hasn't been) much of a secret that Destiny 2 was in a bad way and it probably wasn't going to turn around. We get all that, it's fine, ten years is a good run. However, that also doesn't really matter. When you're in school, you know if all goes well, you are going to graduate. That routine is going to break, you are going to have to live life in a different way. Knowing that is true, and knowing it well in advance, does not necessarily mean that you feel nothing on graduation day. Some people, sure, maybe in that time they've already reconciled with the change, but that's not everyone (and I would doubt it's most people, though that's just a feeling). You can extrapolate this to any part of your life. You know you're moving to a new city? You might end up feeling a nagging pull in your heart toward the memories you're leaving behind. New job? Fuck, you might suddenly feel fondness toward the shit you had to do to get to a position where you can move on. It's not a binary situation, and it's neither complex nor profound. You can carry an umbrella and still be sad when it rains. I'm verbose, but all that to say just have a little fucking empathy every now and again. When someone is opening up and being vulnerable when by all means they could just simply not, give them a little respect. You don't have to like them, you don't have to agree, you don't even have to care, but as transient as life is, seize the chance to be a better and mature person when the opportunities present themselves. It's really not hard to not be an asshole; often it's as easy as just shutting the fuck up.

guys in 2015 I was too scared to run the King's Fall raid but then there was a certain streamer who will remain unnamed and I saw he had cleared it and i said to myself: "well if X can clear it anyone can" and that was the motivation I needed to try the King's Fall raid

What does Bungie make next? Surely they stay with the looter shooter genre (because they're so fucking good at it) but will anything ever top the Light and Darkness saga for Destiny? Fate saga/The Nine just weren't doing it for me. Does that mean they go prequal? Remaster Destiny 1 with some D2 QoL in it? Maybe the creative passion for the Destiny universe has ran its course and it's time for a new or different (e.g., Marathon) universe for their looter shooter? Something completely different that devs can be super excited for? Change is scary!! I quit my programming job in 2019 to be a full-time streamer. It wasn't looking good until I returned to D2 for Shadowkeep, my numbers quadrupled, and streaming became financially viable. Hopefully we can make it until what comes next!! I don't wanna learn how to vibe code 😭

Read the full blog at bung.ie/d2_may_21_2026 For almost twelve years, we have had the joy and honor to explore the Destiny universe with you all. Through all the ups and downs, surprises and triumphs, building Destiny alongside our players has been a monumental privilege. While our love for Destiny 2 has not changed, it has become clear that after The Final Shape, we have reached the time for our shared worlds, and Destiny, to live beyond Destiny 2. As our focus turns towards a new beginning for Bungie, we will begin work incubating our next games. To that end, on June 9, 2026, we will release the final live-service content update for Destiny 2 to begin that new journey as a studio. Though active development may be concluding, we will ensure that Destiny 2 remains playable, just as the original Destiny is today. Many changes in this final update will aim to ensure that Destiny 2 is a welcoming place for players to return to. We’re proud of Destiny 2, the places it took us, and the legacy it has created. Because of you all, our universe is vast, built on years of shared stories, adventures, and victories. From the Cosmodrome to the Pale Heart to the Lawless Frontier, we have forged life-long memories and friendships with you all. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who made that journey with us. From the deepest part of our hearts, thank you, and we'll see you in the stars.

Since then, I have met some of my best friends, in the game and as a direct result of it. If you threw the last half of my life on a corkboard and strung red threads, this would be at the center. With no irony, Destiny changed my life for the better. Love you always. Sincerely:

Some 12 years I booted up pre-release Alpha. A few months later I was farming spinmetal (link in bio, I'm undefeated still). About 18 months from that moment, I threw a dart and applied to join THE Datto Clan™. Lucked out on that one (fuck you Outhouse).
