Top B.C. Trainers Bring Firepower to Alberta’s 2026 Season By @CurtisJStock #Edmonton just got a lot closer to #Vancouver. With the closure of B.C.’s Hastings Park - after conducting horse racing since 1889 in Vancouver - B.C. thoroughbred trainers and owners have flocked to Century Mile Racetrack and Casino which opens its doors for the 2026 racing season on Saturday afternoon at p.m. “Over 100 thoroughbreds have come to Alberta from B.C.” said Dawson Guhle, general manager of the Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society - Alberta. “Good horses and good horsemen.” The influx of B.C. horses has meant that Century Mile has accepted about 720 stall applications this year. Turns out I really like not being at the track anymore. I miss my horses and a select few people of course- but not the cliques, the games, or the mess that comes with it. It’s always about the horses.

I’m at the age that I need an afternoon nap before I go out for the night.

Every time I think about adopting a sibling for my dog Windy she goes and tries to die on us. Having a dog with #ITP is such a rollercoaster

@ODonnellDevon07 @VancouverSun @SteveEwen @hastingsraces I blame horsemen the least. The young folks don’t bet much, they prefer to drink and enjoy music. Fraser, CalX and Hastings all close within a year. Marketing was awful the last 3+ years was dreadful 😞

Noone in YVR even knew it existed until it didn’t.The horsemen are as much to blame for the decline,the internal fighting amongst horse groups, lack of leadership, No clear plan forward 🤷🏻‍♀️

@VancouverSun @SteveEwen Nobody cared more about horse racing than Danny Jukich. Easy to blame ownership and government but it’s an industry in decline. The young folks aren’t interested and the old folks have become scarce. #tellafriend @hastingsraces
