@PalmerLuckey Some people rely on junk mail to feed their fireplaces in the colder months. One may register with the DMA to have ones’ name removed from their lists. Most people don’t send letters anymore so removing junk mail would put a lot of postal workers out of work.
It is time for the United States Postal Service to ban junk mail.
Unsolicited spam calls are already prohibited by the FCC. Emails are heavily regulated by the CAN-SPAM Act of 2003. Junk mail is the majority of mail, 100 million trees per year. Enough!
@germanbred@BabaMal2@Watchman_motto Splitting every lot possible to build higher density. The plans for the Village, building up, replacing single family homes with multi-unit buildings. Take a look at Roosevelt, Grand, Laguna.
@Crystalyze42@iris_seraphina@j0ker937 I wash or just wet mine in the morning. Wash days I use Enjoy Movement Control. It helps to reduce frizz. Otherwise I co wash with a handful of conditioner massaged into scalp and then dragged down my hair to the tips. Sleeping on hair produces frizz for me.
@knits_jen@iris_seraphina@grok I use Enjoy Movement Control on my curls, sort of a leave in conditioner, but lighter. Co wash most of the time with handfuls of conditioner.
@DrDeath1776 Thanks for sharing, I just made it. The raisins sank to the bottom, which made them easy to avoid for raisin haters. Turns out that's everyone except me. The raisinless part was described as "delicious" by my 4-year old, who was initially concerned about "spiced" being "spicy".
This is my Grandmother's molasses spice cake recipe. She asked me to share it so it won't be forgotten. The original recipe was passed down to her from her grandmother who remembered her own mother making it in their village in the Alps in the 1870s. I hope you can all enjoy it.
@OCpatriot_@mr_aniqul Not sure why you are even mentioning California. It's a city and county issue. The state does not have jurisdiction. The state provides guidance, but the permits are required are at the city/county level.
@OG_GenericName@mr_aniqul California doesn't require a permit for like-for-like replacement of a water heater. Cities can require such permits but my city doesn't.
Water heater died last night. 5 yrs old, still under warranty.
Called Manufacturer, they said they'd send parts, but that'd be 4-6 days. Couldn't leave my family without hot water that long.
So I called local repair company, they'd been there 5 minutes when they quoted me $1,100 to fix it. Wouldn't break it down to parts and labor until I leaned on them hard.
- $300 parts
- $800 labor
For 30-40 minutes of work. For a water heater that cost me $700 with sales tax.
I called the manufacturer back and told them the situation and that I planned on buying a new unit at The Home Depot and install it myself (I'd installed my current one).
Rheem said no problem, take your old one with you and we'll give you full credit towards your new one.
With the military discount from my buddy that was helping me, I was out of pocket a whole $65 when it was all said and done, and even traded up a model with a longer warranty.
Thank you Rheem, thank you Home Depot.
Fuck off predatory appliance repair companies.
@OCpatriot_@mr_aniqul Uh huh, sure. Did you install a drip leg? What about an expansion tank? Is it properly vented? Is the T&P properly hooked up to a drain?
@TampaSkeptic@RibbonLed@OCpatriot_ You're a dumbass as well. You have no idea how much it costs to be in business & think a repair should be priced at parts + labor. California requires an obscene amount of licensing, insurance, & education. The customer pays for that.
@mr_aniqul@OCpatriot_ Fuck off and stay in Bangledesh. OP is a cheap asshole who doesn't want to pay people what their labor is worth. He also now has code violations from not installing correctly.
Love stories like this—taking control when the system tries to take advantage of you. Installing it yourself with a buddy sounds like the perfect mix of skill and solidarity. What was the most satisfying part: the $65 out-the-door total or finally telling that quote to kick rocks?
@AlfaMikeNS@OCpatriot_ Or, you pay more up front for one with a 9+ year warranty and have it last 17 years needing only a burner and lighter assembly swap at 11 and only replace it when you have a wall open to do renovations and it's convenient.
@CoPatriot74@OCpatriot_@HotGarbage68 California requires all that of small shops. I run a plumbing company. Our overhead is $185 per hour. In SoCal, where he is located, it can take 60 to 90 minutes to get to a job 20 miles away. You are paying for that.
@OCpatriot_@HotGarbage68 Or don't call the big companies with $20K advertising budget. Call the mom & pop shops. Call the shops with less overhead--license renewal, continuing ed, rent, gas, vehicle, vehicle insurance, liability insurance, payroll, utilities, taxes, permits
@OCpatriot_@HotGarbage68 That's not it. You also pay for drive time. How did he get to your house? Is he licensed, bonded, & insured? You claim to have some degree in business & have no idea how a business runs.
@HotGarbage68 That's all correct, but you should stop and take the time to understand what's being done, how much skill is involved, and what a reasonable rate is.
$750 for 40 minutes of work is insane and predatory.
