@paulinenjoroge Why do they want to sell our unique crop identity. How can you let a foreigner control your indigenous food by introducing crops that don't produce seeds. GMO eating African countries suffered most during COVID-19. Is being dependant on other harmful seed store progressive?

The privatization of state corporations is really ill-advised and sinister. Many Kenyans are concerned about the sale of KICC because that is an outrageous move, but there are other institutions that we should be as concerned about. Take for instance the Kenya Seed Company and the foreign powers angle in sponsoring the introduction of GMOs and repressive laws against use of indigenous seeds. Kenya Seed Company has a lot of other assets like land that will be sold together with it. But for me, it is the idea of disposing off a strategic national asset that was set up by the founding fathers; surrendering the national seed bank, the intellectual property, the variety of seeds and biodiversity, the science, etc that is most surprising for a country that aims to be self-sufficient in food production and is desirous of controlling its own destiny. The sale of Kenya Seed is unlike any other privatization move. This is huge! It is selling our flora and fauna. After we sell Kenya Seed, the only thing we shall be left with is our gene pool but I have a feeling that tool will be privatized. Once Kenya seed is privatized Kenya will be firmly under the grip of global GMO crooks and our food security will be forever compromised. The poor will no longer produce food unless they use certified seeds from the profiteers.
