Yesterday, the whole school community gathered to sign yearbooks and to enjoy our end-of-year BBQ. With a burger in one hand and a pen in the other, students reminisced late into the night! Early-bird pricing ends soon! Join us in the beautiful Madawaska Valley for our Veritas Summer Program! Rising grade 11 and 12 students, along with recent high school graduates, are invited to attend! During the program, attendees will participate in a series of faculty-led lectures and socratic seminars in the morning, while the afternoon and evening will include outdoor activities in the local area. Afternoon and evening activities include: swimming, canoeing, hiking in Algonquin Park, sports, board games, swing dances (with instruction), and music nights. There will also be daily opportunities for confession, Mass, and Eucharistic Adoration. Students will stay in residences with current SWC summer students serving as counsellors. The program will conclude with an overnight outdoor camping excursion. Registration is open, with limited spots available! On Wednesday, April 16th, upper-year students took part in a long-standing College tradition where they dress up first years in light-hearted humorous ways. All types of fun costumes were seen on campus. We want to especially acknowledge the inflatable pink dinosaur seen walking around. On Friday April 17th, fourth year student Gabriel Grondin successfully defended his thesis: Beauty, Truth, and Goodness: The Transcendentals in Michael O'Brien's Father Elijah Trilogy. The examiner of the thesis was Dr. Greg Maillet, and the supervisor was Dr. Natasha Duquette, Professor of Literature. House nights are an important part of living in residence here at Our Lady Seat of Wisdom College. Students come together to cook a delicious communal meal with their housemates. They are often joined by an invited faculty member. A big thank you and well done to our Paul Sanders and Janine Lieu Pro-Life Club for organizing our annual donation collection drive in support of First Step Options. Located in Pembroke, First Step Options is a wonderful pregnancy resource centre! This year’s collection drive was able to gather many items such as baby clothing and supplies as well as a monetary donation collected of $1,340.00! Today, we had the privilege of unveiling a portrait of our former president and current Chair of the Board, Dr. Keith Cassidy, painted by talented local artist and College alumnus Joseph Ferrant ('12). Dr. Cassidy was an integral part of our growth as a College during his presidency, leading with integrity. We remain grateful for his ongoing commitment to the mission of the College. On Tuesday, April 7th, we held an extra community dinner in celebration of Easter. This dinner was possible because of the success of the Wisdom Winter Workout event held earlier this year. The College community enjoyed a delicious ham dinner followed by a lively dance. On Wednesday, March 25th, Dr. Ky Heinze, Professor of Classical and Early Christian Studies at the College, held a faculty lecture and book launch event. The topic of his lecture was “Divine Providence and Demonic Attacks in Patristic Thought”. Thank you to everyone who came to the event, it was a wonderful success.
