A Legacy of Service: Honouring Two Brant County OPP Veterans
While stopping at the local Tim Hortons in St. George, look who I ran into!
David Maxwell began his policing career in January 1973 with the Paris Police Service, serving 37 and a half years before retiring in August 2009 as an OPP Sergeant in Brant County. Having worked in a variety of policing disciplines, Dave takes pride in a career he thoroughly enjoyed. Today, he is “Living the Dream,” spending time with his wife, two children, and four grandchildren.
Barry “The Hustler” Hussey joined the Paris Police Service in 1992 and served his entire career in Brant County, retiring in April 2022 with the OPP. Barry played a key role in developing the Bicycle Patrol Unit, working with the local business community to fund its first bikes. That initiative continues to grow today, with the unit expanding its fleet to include new e-bikes.
In retirement, Barry remains active in the community, volunteering with the Red Cross, pursuing his passion for music, and spending time with his wife, children, and two grandchildren.
Their dedication, both in uniform and beyond, continues to inspire and strengthen the community they proudly served.

Optimist Club of Paris Youth Appreciation Day
The Brant County OPP extends its sincere appreciation to the Optimist Club of Paris for hosting its annual Youth Appreciation Day, recognizing the outstanding achievements of local youth.
Eight students from Paris District High School were selected to serve in honorary leadership roles, reflecting their commitment to their school and community.
Students visited the Brant County OPP detachment and met with Detachment Commander Inspector Jason McTaggart, gaining valuable insight into policing and the leadership required for public service.
Thank you to the dedicated faculty of Paris District High School and the members of the Optimist Club for their continued support of youth and their commitment to building strong community partnerships.
Members of the community, help support local youth initiatives and take opportunities to mentor, volunteer, and invest in the next generation of leaders.

On Sunday, May 24, 2026 six teams participated in the Battle of the Badges at the Rondeau Rod and Gun Club in Blenheim. This event was a huge success and over $10,000 in funds were raised for the Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers. I am proud to say Team #ElginOPP came in second place. The Chatham-Kent Mayor Darrin Canniff was in attendance and donated $1,500. Chatham-Kent-Leamington Member of Parliament Dave Epp was also in attendance to show his support.
