Black, lesbian, mother, warrior, poet. Audre Lorde dedicated her life and art to confront issues around race, class, gender, and sexuality. Her essays and poems continue to echo the voices and the emotions of the oppressed.

"Queen Mother" of the Stonewall Riots, Marsha "Pay It No Mind" Johnson was a Black trans woman who fought for LGBTQ+ rights. She was the co-founder of the Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries (S.T.A.R.), an activist organization that provided support for LGBTQ+ youth.
