Renewed frictions are straining the diplomatic gains of the Islamabad Accord. That accord was widely seen as favourable to Iran: giving it real space for economic recovery, political engagement and one day, a gradual return to regional stability. At the same time Iran must understand that international commercial passage through strategic waterways is protected from politically motivated demands. Any attempt by Iran to extract a kind of “maximum economic benefit” from the Strait of Hormuz would trigger consequences far beyond the region, and which would be directly hitting global energy security and trade. Iran must recognise that pragmatism, restraint and neutralising internal spoilers are essential. The long-term economic and strategic benefits of stability will always outweigh temporary gains from pressure or escalation. War benefits no regional state. Israel remains the principal beneficiary of prolonged confrontation. The objective must stay a final agreement that is credible, sustainable and acceptable to all parties. Pakistan will continue supporting a just and balanced settlement.
