The Family Integrative Recovery Systems Therapy (FIRST) program is hosting a resource fair for Veterans and their family members. The event will showcase resources and services available both within the VA and the local community to support Veterans and their families. The FIRST program will also offer activities for Veterans, their partners, and children. These activities are designed to promote family connection and encourage intentional time together over the summer. The goal is to improve positive family and parenting interactions and help reduce stress and conflict in Veterans’ family lives.

The Laboratory Section at the Orlando VA Medical Center recently came together to assemble care packages and heartfelt messages for the dedicated service members of the 411th Hospital Center, USMH-K at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait. The care packages included snacks, games, and other thoughtful items intended to help brighten spirits and provide a small reminder of home while serving overseas. Special thanks to Moises Pujols-Rivera, Cathlene McGinnis, Kristy La Fleur, and others who helped support this meaningful effort. Thank you to all who contributed to reminding our troops that their service and sacrifice are deeply appreciated. #OrlandoVA #SupportOurTroops #VeteransAffairs

Today, the Orlando VA Healthcare System proudly accepted the donation of a Liberty Tree in honor of Veterans and the enduring spirit of freedom. The Liberty Tree, a historic symbol dating back to the American Revolution, represents unity, courage, and the fight for liberty. This special tribute was donated as part of the America 250 Celebration by the Mary Virginia Cabell, Orlando, and William P. Duval Chapters of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, along with the Central Florida Sons of the American Revolution. The Orlando VA Center for Development and Civic Engagement (CDCE) graciously accepted the donation on behalf of the medical center. Thank you to all involved for helping create a lasting tribute to the selfless sacrifice and service of our nation’s Veterans. #America250 #LibertyTree #OrlandoVA #Veterans #CDCE #HonorAndServe

Occupational Therapy Empowers Veterans to Reclaim Their Daily Lives: For many Veterans, recovery after a stroke, surgery or neurological injury is about more than healing. It is about learning how to return to the daily tasks that make life feel familiar and meaningful again. At the Lake Baldwin VA Clinic, occupational therapy is helping Veterans do exactly that, one milestone at a time. Observed each April, Occupational Therapy Month recognizes a profession centered on helping people participate in the activities that matter most to them. Whether that means writing, getting dressed, preparing meals, returning to work, or pursuing personal goals, occupational therapists help patients rebuild function, confidence, and independence. At the Lake Baldwin VA Clinic, that work is changing lives for Veterans like Ronald Beasley and Alicia Malcolm. Beasley, a retired Navy Captain, came to occupational therapy following a life-altering stroke years ago. He worked tirelessly to relearn basic skills on his own, but knew there was still more progress to be made. “I had a massive stroke,” Beasley said. “I had to teach myself how to walk, talk and do a lot of things again.” He said occupational therapy has remained an important part of his journey, especially as he continues seeking ways to improve his upper extremity function and maintain his independence. “Don’t give up on yourself,” Beasley said. “Be patient with the process and celebrate the small successes.” Malcolm, a Marine Veteran, began occupational therapy after undergoing surgery in 2024 to remove a tumor that had been pressing on her brain. After surgery and radiation, she experienced weakness and coordination issues on her right side, making everyday tasks like writing, typing, and tying her shoes difficult. “As an accountant, a teacher and a recruiter, that had a big impact on my day-to-day life,” Malcolm said. She began occupational therapy at the VA in July 2024 and said the progress she has made since then has been life changing. Read more here: ow.ly/SzSr50YRjk6
