As Canadians mourn with the people of Tumbler Ridge, we learned of a tragedy in Kitigan Zibi Anishinābeg, Québec early this morning. Our prayers are with the victims and all those who loved them. Our government officials are in contact with local authorities to ensure the people of the community receive every support we can provide following this heartbreaking loss.

Pendant que la population canadienne partage le deuil des gens de Tumbler Ridge, nous apprenons d’une tragedie dans la communauté anishinābeg de Kitigan Zibi, au Québec, ce matin. Nos prières accompagnent les victimes et tous ceux qui les aimaient. Nos représentants du gouvernement sont en communication avec les autorités locale pour veiller à ce que la communauté reçoive tout le soutien que nous pouvons lui offrir pendant cette épreuve déchirante.

I am devastated by today’s horrific shootings in Tumbler Ridge, B.C. My prayers and deepest condolences are with the families and friends who have lost loved ones to these horrific acts of violence.   I join Canadians in grieving with those whose lives have been changed irreversibly today, and in gratitude for the courage and selflessness of the first responders who risked their lives to protect their fellow citizens. Our ability to come together in crisis is the best of our country — our empathy, our unity, and our compassion for each other.   I have connected with Premier Eby to express my condolences, and with the Minister of Public Safety, Gary Anandasangaree, who is coordinating the federal response.    Our officials are in close contact with their counterparts to ensure the community is fully supported as best we can. The Government of Canada stands with all British Columbians as they confront this horrible tragedy.

Je suis bouleversé par la terrible fusillade qui a eu lieu aujourd'hui à Tumbler Ridge, en Colombie-Britannique. Mes prières et mes sincères condoléances vont aux familles et aux amis qui ont perdu des êtres chers dans cet acte de violence horrible.    Je me joins aux Canadiennes et aux Canadiens pour exprimer ma sympathie à ceux dont la vie a été bouleversée à jamais aujourd'hui, et pour saluer le courage et l'altruisme des premiers intervenants qui ont risqué leur vie pour protéger leurs concitoyens.   Notre capacité à rester unis dans les moments difficiles est ce qu'il y a de mieux dans notre pays : notre empathie, notre unité et notre compassion les uns envers les autres. J'ai communiqué avec le premier ministre Eby pour lui présenter mes condoléances, ainsi qu'avec le ministre de la Sécurité publique, Gary Anandasangaree, qui coordonne la réponse fédérale.    Nos représentants sont en étroite communication avec leurs homologues afin d’assurer que les communautés affectées bénéficient du meilleur soutien possible. Le gouvernement du Canada se tient aux côtés de tous les Britanno-Colombiens qui font face à cette terrible tragédie.
