When I play pokemon it's not a deep cultural exchange, it's just some casual fun. It's even ok to not be aware of where a piece of media is from.

I just think that often times localizers take this too far, using this principle as an excuse. I disagree that translation is artistic though.

I think it's better to keep it as literal as possible.
