The incident occurred near the Tugela Plaza in KwaZulu-Natal at around 3am on Thursday. The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport confirmed that emergency services responded to the scene, while traffic was diverted around the crash site. The N3 Toll Concession reported that, despite the collision, no extensive traffic delays were experienced in the area. KZN Transport and Human Settlements MEC Siboniso Duma said the truck and a bus were travelling on the south-bound roadway when the driver allegedly made the illegal U-turn, causing the crash. He stated that 25 passengers were injured, while another 29 people were not injured. Investigations are ongoing, with Head of Department Zibusiso Dlamini working alongside Road Traffic Inspectorate and Operation Shanela officers to determine whether the driver has the necessary documentation to operate in South Africa. Authorities have also intensified operations on major routes ahead of the Easter travel period.
