'What does water have to do with a child's future? Everything. This World Water Day, we are reminded that access to clean water is about more than survival—it is about dignity, health, and advancing equity, especially for girls. Through our #WASH initiative, we are creating safer learning environments in supported schools by providing motorized boreholes, wash bays, and toilet facilities. So far, 134 toilets, 35 boreholes, and 26 wash bays have been installed, supporting students’ health, wellbeing, and continued access to education. When communities invest in water, they invest in girls’ education—and in stronger, more resilient futures. #WorldWaterDay2026 #WaterAndGender #WASH #CleanWater #WaterForAll #GenderEquity #SDG6

'“Because no matter who we are or where we come from, we're all entitled to the basic human rights of clean air to breathe, clean water to drink, and healthy land to call home.” — Martin Luther King III When we fail to safeguard the environment, we are taking away opportunities for children to learn, grow, and thrive. Protecting the earth today is an investment in their health, their education, and their future. By ensuring clean air, safe water, and healthy land, we give every child the chance to inherit a world full of possibilities.

Access does not always mean learning. The World Bank and UNESCO estimate that 70% of children in low and middle income countries cannot read and understand a simple text by age 10. At Oando Foundation, we believe every child deserves more than a seat in a classroom, they deserve the opportunity to truly learn, grow, and succeed. This belief drives LEARNOVATE-FLIP, our evidence-based programme strengthening foundational literacy and numeracy in Nigerian public primary schools through inclusive teaching approaches and targeted remedial learning in the early grades. By equipping teachers with effective instructional strategies and providing additional support for struggling learners, the programme helps children build the foundational skills they need to read with understanding and apply knowledge across subjects. In the pilot phase, LEARNOVATE-FLIP reached over 47,000 students and achieved a 33% cumulative average improvement in learning outcomes among beneficiaries, demonstrating the measurable impact of this approach in underserved communities. #EducationForImpact #FoundationalLearning #SDG4 #LEARNOVATEFLIP #OandoFoundation

A full-circle moment. Our Head of Foundation, @ToniaUduimoh , returned to familiar ground as Special Guest at the 2026 International Women’s Day event hosted by the Unity Schools Old Students’ Association (USOSA), not just as a leader, but a proud product of Nigeria’s Unity School system. Her journey through that system is a powerful reminder of what access to quality education can unlock. It also reinforces why expanding educational opportunities remain one of the Foundation’s strongest convictions. When we invest in girls, we don’t just empower individuals, we unlock systems, strengthen institutions, and accelerate national progress. Education is not symbolic. It is strategic. It is power. #IWD2026 #WomenInLeadership #EducationForImpact #SDG4

Educating women is not only a moral imperative – it is a development strategy. When girls access quality education, communities experience improved health outcomes, stronger economies and more inclusive growth. When women gain skills and opportunity, families and societies benefit collectively. This International Women’s Day, we reaffirm a simple truth: investing in women strengthens everyone. #InternationalWomensDay #GiveToGain #IWD2026#EmpowerWomen #GirlsEducation GenderEquality

A single word can speak volumes. We asked colleagues to describe what empowering women and girls means to them — in just one word. Here’s what they said. Celebrate with us this International Women’s Day. 💬 Join the conversation: What’s the one word you’d use?

The mentorship phase of the School STEAM Project is underway in Rivers State.   With our #HumansofOando volunteers onboarded, they are working alongside educators to deliver structured age-appropriate sessions. Students are engaging with hands-on materials that bring science and mathematics concepts to life through experimentation and teamwork. This practical exposure strengthens understanding, and builds confidence.   This phase reflects Oando Foundation's commitment to ensuring that learning is applied, interactive and relevant.

What if a single conversation could unlock a world of possibilities for a child? Through the School STEAM Project, #HumansofOando are stepping into classrooms as mentors to share their journeys, simplify complex ideas, and show pupils how learning connects to real-life careers. To ensure they are fully prepared, an onboarding session was held last week, equipping volunteers with tools, guidance, and inspiration to make every classroom interaction meaningful. A big thank you to our #HumansofOando for stepping up to shape the innovators of tomorrow!

Practical learning sparks curiosity, builds confidence, and makes classroom knowledge stick. How can more public and private stakeholders champion hands-on learning in Nigerian classrooms?

Last week, the Oando Foundation team visited schools in Rivers State to observe live sessions under the School STEAM Project. Through hands-on activities, design thinking, innovation labs, and guided mentorship, students are discovering how STEAM connects to everyday life — strengthening problem-solving skills and preparing them for the future.
