My British 🇬🇧 colleagues at work laugh at me each time I say I want to buy a house and pay off on time.. They ask me if I intend to live here when I’m old and I said to them that it’s a possibility. They told me that “what is the point of working so hard to pay off a house that the government can repossess if at some point I need to use the care home?” They said “what is the point of paying off a house that I cannot transfer to my kids without them paying inheritance tax” They encouraged me to “get a mortgage and choose the longest repayment plan, pay as little as a I can per month, enjoy the house as much as I want, but never think of paying it off” If this is how an average UK 🇬🇧 citizen thinks, then I believe they know what we don’t know. What is your opinion about this???

Unrelated, but Nigeria needs a surgery gallery where we would display the surgeries we do to enlighten the national on how gifted we are..! This particular guy did this surgery in India, this particular surgery would take a Senior registrar in Maxillofacial surgery in UNTH nothing less than 5 hours to fix I swear to God..! Not to talk of a consultant or a professor..! So why the stress running abroad..? This is even a benign growth and it’s not even an emergency to begin with. That was how they wasted money flying baddie of LASU to Egypt to fix common Bilateral Genu varum, if they have done that surgery in UNTH they would have enough change for post op and even have a lot of change left. This guy was a new employee in the Supported Living Facility our Cleaning company maintenance- First day on shift in this 5-bed Supported Living facility, he meets a Young Person (YP) who is obsessed with FIFA. In his mind? "Omo, God has done it. Easy shift." Baba joined the YP to play. The aura was good because "positive engagement" is happening. The YP is happy. Baba is happy. But there was a problem. Baba was a street guy - FIFA is not a "therapeutic activity" it is a matter of life and death😃. By the 20th minute, my man was leading 2-0. By halftime, it was 4-0. The funny thing was; he was doing skill moves + heavy celebration. Long story short, game ended 6-1. Baba trash this YP watin no good 😄 That was the exact moment the "therapeutic interaction" turned into a crime scene. The YP didn't find this funny -He saw red. He credited NELFUND for supporting him in becoming the Best Graduating Student of LAUTECH, but the dishonesty in some replies is alarming. You can criticize the Tinubu government for many things, some of it valid, but when it comes to NELFUND, let us be honest. It is a lifesaver. I am a 500-level medical student at UI. I have been on NELFUND for three consecutive years. They recently paid my school fees and the fees of thousands of UI students this session. That is not a rumor. That is real. NELFUND currently supports students with full academic fee payment sent directly to the school and a monthly upkeep allowance of twenty thousand naira paid directly to the student. Now let me address the common lies people spread. Some say it is a loan, so it is not helpful. Yes, it is a loan, but it is interest-free. Tell me one loan app in Nigeria that gives you zero interest. Others say the repayment is a burden. But repayment only starts after you have graduated, finished NYSC, and found a job. If you are unemployed, you pay nothing. If you lose your job, the payments stop automatically. That is not a burden. That is safety. Some people claim NELFUND has no impact on students. That is simply false. I am an admin in a group helping students apply successfully. Many higher institutions and scholarship bodies now advise students to take advantage of this loan so they can use their own money for other needs that bring financial stability. Another lie is that the government made education expensive just to introduce the loan. Federal schools are still highly subsidized. We all know what our mates in private schools pay per session, millions of naira. Our fees, even after adjustments, are a fraction of that. Most of the people throwing shade at NELFUND are not even in school anymore. They have no idea how the scheme operates today. Let me be clear. I am not saying we should stop scrutinizing government spending. We absolutely should. But when a good initiative works, we must have the maturity to acknowledge it. NELFUND is keeping real students in school. That is a fact. Let us not allow dishonesty to rob others of this opportunity.

I went to the bank earlier this year to get my ATM card. A woman stormed the bank visibly angry, anxious, furious and ready to tear down every pillar and anyone that stands in her way. The securities couldn't contain her. She kept shouting "Fidelity Bank stole my money. How can a whole N700k be debited at once in business account when I've not initiated any transfer and my ATM isn't stolen." Whole bank went silent. Even the queue forgot what they came for. Manager logged into her account, checks calmly, then asks “Madam… did you collect COVID-19 loan in 2020?” Jitters 😭 she started brainstorming. Her fury left her, her grimaced face turned to pity. She started calculating her past like WAEC result. After small silence… she whispered "yes" That ₦700k? CBN came to collect their money with full chest. Well she left the bank in tears. According to her, that was a money her client paid her to supply good. This is exactly how some people will shout first and remember later when that NELFUND loan starts collecting itself.

Abroad is weird. UK is even more bizarre, to be honest. Here, your neighbour gives no shiii. At best, they’ll peep through the window to see who just moved in… and that’s it. No "hi", no nothing. The social weirdness here is alarming. You can spend 5 years in a building and not know your neighbours. How would you even know them? You don’t see them. You don’t hear them. If not for my Ring doorbell and the Amazon guy dropping my neighbour’s parcels, I wouldn’t even know they exist. Semi-detached. We share a wall… but it’s like nobody’s there. Can’t hear them, they can’t hear us. In the UK, I’ve even heard of people passing away and nobody knows not until 4–5 days later. It’s beyond just privacy at that point, it's something else.
