The Color of Armenian Land (1969) dir. & DoP: Mikhail Vartanov A dialogue-free, 15-minute poetic meditation on Armenian art and culture. It also features rare behind-the-scenes footage from Sergei Parajanov's The Color of Pomegranates.

@filmsofukraine Such a shame the original project was ruined by Soviet officials. I'm familiar with that early Ukrainian phase of Parajanov's career. He also made a great docu on Ukrainian/Hutsul folk art, Golden Hands (1957): youtube.com/watch?v=fS2MBe…

The Stone Wedding (1973) dir. Dan Pița, Mircea Veroiu DoP: Iosif Demian One of the bleakest and most melancholic arthouse films I saw last year. It still sits in my mind. Worth watching for the cinematography and music alone.
