In James 4:13-16 James hits on another form of pride: making our own plans. He mentions a person who plans to move to a city and start a business. And they plan to do well. We might ask what is wrong with this? There are many proverbs that extol the benefits of good planning and warn against impulsive projects done without planning. But what James is warning against here is creating OUR OWN plans and thinking they will succeed without God’s help. That is prideful self-confidence. James says our confidence should be in the Lord. We should have the feeling we can do anything IF God is in it with us and wants us to do it. James’ point is that we absolutely do need to plan. But we should pray first and ask God to guide our plans. Then follow His directions. That’s the proper formula. Proverbs 16:3 spells it out very clearly: “Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.” Proverbs 16:3 NLT

I’m currently in bed eating crumpets and drinking coffee. My dog is lying on my feet and I’m watching Afterlife. It’s 9 months today since my husband and best friend of 26 years took his own life but I can actually honestly say today I feel ok. But I feel guilty for feeling ok!
