Please don’t compare the windrush and these rubber boats illegally arriving! The Windrush generation were British subjects and legally held the right to live and work in the UK. Because their home countries were part of the British Empire when they arrived, they were automatically citizens of the United Kingdom and Colonies (CUKCs) or citizens of Commonwealth countries…. That’s why there was the Windrush scandal People of the Windrush were families, women, children and men all smartly dressed, arriving in response to an invitation, ready to work and integrate. No intention of relying on the system/welfare. They didn’t have different religious cultural practices or beliefs and although were from the Caribbean were very British in many ways. Yes they were asked to obtain papers much later but after having been LEGALLY here with status. Hence the Windrush scandal uproar.
