Octopus Energy is a different kind of retail electric provider. CEO Nick Chaset thinks of Octopus as a “flex-tailer,” pairing flexible resources like batteries and demand response from EVs, thermostats, and other devices, then co-optimizing them together. On a hot summer day that might mean: ⚡ Pre-cooling homes in the first hour of peak prices ⚡ Discharging batteries in the second and third hour ⚡ Slowing EV charging in the fourth hour In reality, that sequence might change minute by minute based on prices and grid needs, with software deciding how to get the most value from each resource. The goal is to use every flexible resource in the most efficient order to keep costs low and reduce strain on the grid. Few large retailers in Texas operate this way. The ones that do could help the state avoid emergencies and make better use of the storage and flexible load we already have. 🎧 Full conversation here: tinyurl.com/5n96tkhn 💬 Should Texas push for this kind of integration across the market? #TexasEnergy #GridReliability #EnergyStorage #EnergyTransition #EnergyCapitalPodcast
