He was confused, but more than confused, he was happy — company in different forms, a human and a monkey. It wasn’t what he expected, but he loved and treasured the moment.

Old Ives’ initial reaction would have been to devour the human, but since he had changed, he opened his door wide and welcomed her. He presented himself as a gentle giant, so the woman felt trusting. Before he could close the door behind her, a monkey darted inside.

When he opened the door, there was no one, or so he thought. He heard a whisper, so he looked down. Lo and behold, a woman, almost as if she were crouching because of her old age. Despite that, she had a glow that struck Ives.

After his wife’s unannounced departure, he had become friendly and welcoming to others.

“It’s just eggs, but you’d be welcome to join me,” he exclaimed excitedly, thinking it might be a giant companion.

Little did he know, his life would change tremendously. As he prepared his own food, there was a knock on the door.

“Was I truly the bane of her existence?” he thought, sitting down in his usual spot where he’d happily nap after a day’s work. He crumpled into a ball of sadness and spent the night outside, crying loudly. But he couldn’t care much — a giant is a giant, he can’t bawl silently.

It’s been nothing but confusing for Ives. He thought his wife loved him, but then one day after going around town, he found no food, no bath to dive into, nothing. His wife had vanished into thin air.

Contrary to popular belief, I am still alive.
