I realized why manual data cleaning eventually becomes a problem. When sales files keep coming in every month, repeating the same cleaning steps slows down reporting and wastes time. So instead of cleaning files manually, I built an automated Power Query workflow that:

Power Query isn’t just for cleaning data once. It’s for building repeatable systems that continue working as new data arrives.

The real test? I added a new monthly sales file, clicked Refresh, and within seconds everything was cleaned and updated automatically. That changed how I see Excel automation.

One thing I’ve learned from working with data: Sometimes the most important part of analysis is not the dashboard… It’s the cleaning process behind it.

Yesterday, I spent time cleaning a messy dataset in Excel manually. And it reminded me that data cleaning is a very important part of data analysis. Clean data is what enables reliable business decisions.

Tools and functions used: • Sort & Filter • Find & Replace • Flash Fill • Text to Columns • TRIM, CLEAN & PROPER • Formatting tools

To clean and prepare the dataset for analysis, I: ✔ Standardized text fields across columns ✔ Removed duplicates and unnecessary rows ✔ Corrected missing and inconsistent values ✔ Applied proper formatting for dates, currency, percentages, and numbers

Here’s what the raw dataset contained: Inconsistent text formatting Blank and unnecessary rows Missing values Duplicates Poor column arrangement
