Actually sphinx no. 2 was already found at Giza. In the so-called “Kromer” , excavated by Karl Kromer’s team, found in Square F, in context with lots of sealings of King Khafre. Looks ugly? This was probably done by an actual person working on site. Published in 1978 in Vienna.
