So, many of the big Toronto companies on Bay Street have cancelled 2024 internships (accounting, law, advisory, banking); the biggest of these employers who hire interns is advisory, who hire interns and permanent MBA from usually 2 unis in Ontario. Also, the 2023 interns who just started may not been kept after Dec, so basically two years of graduate finance, law, banking, business students being affected, at least in Toronto where biggest grad pool is recruited and employed. On the other side - the two universities in Ontario that are the primary ones big advisory firms, banks and law recruit from, are saying that most 2024 internships and permanent grad jobs are cancelled (so some sort of confirmation from both sides). A recent position for one graduate business grad garnered 2,000 applications. To cope, the firm ran resumes thru AI to pull out resumes with key words to narrow pool down to manageable number before selecting the remaining ones with A average in their last year to interview. Brutal for our grad students, and I feel for them.
