It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Leo Joseph Coar, publisher of Distributor’s Link Magazine, who peacefully passed away on January 12, 2026. Leo was born on January 23, 1932, in Jersey City, New Jersey. After proudly serving four years in the U.S. Navy, in 1954, Leo began a distinguished career in the fastener industry. In 1970, Leo along with his wife Myra, started Leo J. Coar Associates, a manufacturers’ representative agency serving fastener distributors nationwide. A true entrepreneur, Leo recognized the need for a dedicated publication that would connect the people, products, and stories of the fastener world. Together with his partner, Maryann Marzocchi, he launched Distributor’s Link Magazine, which debuted in the Winter of 1977. Over the decades, Link Magazine has become a cornerstone of the fastener industry. Today, under the dedicated leadership of Tracey Lumia and Jill Coar, with the continued support of the Coar family, Distributor’s Link Magazine is proudly entering its 49th year. Leo’s many contributions to the fastener industry earned him induction into the Fastener Hall of Fame. His impact extended far beyond publishing. Known for his integrity, innovative spirit, and generosity, Leo was always willing to mentor others, especially start-ups, freely sharing his knowledge, encouragement, and support. Despite all that he achieved professionally, Leo often said it was his cherished family life that kept him grounded. He is survived by his wife, Myra, of 68 years; four children and their spouses; six grandchildren and their spouses; and seven great-grandchildren. His legacy of family devotion and professional excellence will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. The fastener industry has lost a true pioneer, mentor, and friend. As we honor Leo’s remarkable life and legacy, we now look to the next generation to carry the torch forward.
