@LogitechG Thank you Logitech for your customer service. The chat service became so bad and I can't talk to anyone. I started the chat to talk about an issue with my G Pro X Gaming headset and I waited 50 minutes and no one responded to me.

New article: Google’s Helpful Content & Other AI Systems May Be Impacting Your Site’s Visibility mariehaynes.com/google-ai-syst… Let me tell the story of how this article came to be. Last summer, Google reached out to several SEO's, myself included to talk about a new system: The helpful content system. On this call, I learned a few things about this system, but everything was still quite cryptic. My takeaway from the call was that Google's ranking system was shifting to understand when content is created for an existing audience/customers vs content that is created because of the opportunities that SEO give us. And that this would have a large impact on many sites. Especially many that have thrived because of SEO. The initial rollout of the helpful content system in August of 2022 did not seem to strongly impact many sites. The next announced update was in early December - a time when traffic trends are difficult to interpret because of holiday shopping. Many sites normally see declines in traffic starting in early December as SERPs shift to be less informational and more commercial. But something happened in November that no one understood. So many sites saw inexplicable declines starting either the first week of November, or in many cases November 15. We saw a bunch of Google Explore results pop up that day, so initially that's what I thought it was. But then the losses got worse and worse and couldn't be explained by a new SERP feature stealing a few clicks. Now that I've reviewed many sites impacted, I'm certain this was either: 1) An unannounced change to the helpful content system or 2) The helpful content system was learning and applying more (un)helpful content classifications I think 2 is most likely. The documentation says the system is running continually monitoring sites and learning. If after "a few months" it sees that you've removed unhelpful content and it hasn't returned, then it can remove the classification. The changes we saw in November were "a few months" after the helpful content system originally launched. Back to the story of why I wrote this article... Because my main work is helping sites analyze traffic drops, I was seeing site after site impacted by the helpful content system. Each time I looked at content that Google had elevated over theirs, it was clearly more aligned with the helpful content criteria Google gives us. The problem was, I was having difficulty explaining this to site owners. Also, my recovery advice was mostly theory based on study and observation. When we make recommendations as SEO's, it's good practice to supply the clients with examples and case studies to help justify the expense that comes with vastly improving quality and helpfulness. There are no case studies of recovery following a helpful content classification that I'm aware of. My hope is that this article helps many SEOs who can then share their successes. I have consulted with a few sites that have been able to see significant improvements after making drastic changes to content, and there are several more who are currently working hard and hoping for favour as the system continually evaluates them. I will hopefully soon be able to share more. So, I was finding myself giving advice that was difficult to explain. Hire a designer...create more video content...do original reporting...remove copious amounts of content that was written by an SEO team and is "medium" quality... All great advice, but for a business that's struggling already, these are big asks when all you have to go on are my theories on how Google's algorithms work. I stopped almost all of my work other than newsletter (oh how I love writing newsletter) so that I could work on understanding this system. This article is the culmination of about 8 months of researching about machine learning systems and Google's documentation on their ranking systems, alongside looking at hundreds of examples of content that was likely rewarded or punished by this system. Hopefully I have been able to explain my thoughts well. I would love to hear your thoughts! mariehaynes.com/google-ai-syst…
