That’s some pig! 🐷 Swine have been a part of Ohio’s livestock industry since the late 18th century. In fact, Cincinnati was the world’s largest pork-producing city in the 1840s and 1850s. 🐖 This blue-ribbon pig is just one of the characters you can find at the Ohio Children’s Carousel at the @OhioStateFair. Did you know that Ohio has an official fossil fish? The Dunkleosteus terrelli, nicknamed “the Dunk,” lived roughly 382 to 358 million years ago, when Ohio was covered by a deep prehistoric sea. And now, kids can ride this ancient creature at the @OhioStateFair’s new Ohio Children’s Carousel! The world’s largest specimens of the Dunk have been found in the black shale rocks in northern Ohio. You’ll find a diverse collection of fossils at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. Ohio has a deep and rich history with the Shawnee Tribe, and the new Ohio Children’s Carousel at the @OhioStateFair pays tribute to their legacy. From its traditional cloth saddle blanket to its embroidered fringe pouch, each detail on this horse is associated with a Shawnee ceremony, such as the Green Corn Dance, which celebrates the beginning of the annual corn harvest. 🌽 Many thanks to the Shawnee Tribe’s historians and communications teams for helping Ohio design this beautiful horse.
