Today, we celebrate #InternationalWomensDay and the incredible women who lead, mentor, advocate, and serve every day. 🙌 We're proud to recognize the women in our leadership who help shape disability-inclusive policies, expand access, and empower students with disabilities across Ohio. Their dedication strengthens our organization and the communities we serve.

#SpringSaturday: Bloom Where You're Planted 🌷 Spring is a reminder that growth doesn't happen overnight. It happens quietly, consistently, and in the space you're already in. Let's take a moment to reflect this Saturday: What's one area of your life where you're growing this semester? 🌱 What's one small step you can take this week to keep blooming? 🌱 You don't have to have everything figured out to be making progress, either. #WinterWednesday: Confidence & Calendars 📱 Confidence doesn't always come from having everything figured out. Sometimes it starts with typing it out! Using your phone's calendar to map out deadlines, exams, work shifts, and personal time can help you feel more in control and less overwhelmed. Try this: ✅ Add all major due dates first. ✅ Break big projects into smaller steps. ✅ Color coordinate so things don't get confusing. ✅ Schedule in study time and rest. As a child, Lois Curtis faced institutionalization due to schizophrenia and developmental disabilities, as well as a lack of state resources. She desperately wanted to live and participate in her community, which drove her to file a lawsuit against the state of Georgia. The resulting Supreme Court ruling known as the Olmstead Decision stated that forcing individuals with disabilities to live in segregated institutions violated the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and that community living was not just a preference—it was a civil right. Lois was also a visual artist known for colorful portraits, and she even presented her artwork to President Barack Obama. #BlackHistoryMonth #BlackHistory #DisabilityHistory

When Donald Galloway lost his vision as a child, he didn’t let his disability hinder his education or activism. He became a junior member of the NAACP and the National Federation of the Blind, working to ensure people of color were part of the disability rights conversation. Donald worked for the Berkeley Center for Independent Living, eventually leading the D.C. branch. He was denied jury duty in D.C. due to his blindness, which led him to file a lawsuit that ultimately upheld the constitutional rights of those with disabilities. #BlackHistoryMonth #BlackHistory #DisabilityHistory

Fueled by the discrimination she faced, Johnnie Lacy became a prominent activist for the Black Disability community and the Independent Living Movement. When polio left her paralyzed, Johnnie was initially denied access to higher education due to her disability. She was ultimately allowed to attend San Francisco State University, and after graduation, she helped create the Berkeley Center for Independent Living.
