@bucks_zone6 @JBook_37 Defense wasn't the issue. Throwing a pick 6 and the offense failing to score a single point in the 1st half killed us along with having a very vanilla offense all season. Defense will still be solid next season but yes should regress. Hard to replace Kayden/Downs specifically.

@JoJoHio73 @TonyGerdeman Our offensive line talent isn't an issue. We have 5 stars from Ian Moore, Carter Lowe and Sam Greer in the 2nd and 3rd units. The key is coaching and maximizing what we have. We have the talent, we have the depth. Just need to make it work. Ryan Day made the right decision.

Ryan Day on his radio show today talked about why they didn't look at the portal on the offensive line: "The portal really wasn't in play here because it took everything we had to get the guys to come back."

@strkydog I think Ryan Day still doesn't want to hand the keys completely over to another OC. Still wants to be involved. Chip and Arthur Smith are pretty similar OCs. He keeps focusing on OCs on areas he isn't the best at and ones that don't specialize in the pass attack.

Arthur Smith things: 1. Experienced OC - Day can let him run the Offense. 2. The pass offense will still be Day’s 3. NFL schemes and Day runs a pro style system 4. Run game should improve Bonus: I trust Day with these hires and he did go external this time. Buckeyes!

@CFBAlerts_ Same 2019 High School Class as Garrett Wilson who is already on his 2nd NFL contract. How can HS recruits compete when they go up against a 25 year old grown man? You wonder why Miami & Indiana improved so much. This is why. Grown adults playing for their team.

@Kevinish 100% accurate. Day has always been the one who specializes in the passing offense. Issue is run/blocking/TEs where he struggles. This is the area Smith is good at. Feels like a Patricia hire all over again. Getting too much bad rep. Put trust in that Day knows what he is doing.

Based on how things went with Chip Kelly, I expect Arthur Smith to be essentially the run game coordinator and call plays within Ryan Day’s passing offense. And I think I’m cool with that.

@JBook_37 We traded Brian Hartline for Arthur Smith + Cortez Hamilton. This is a massive win. No clue if Smith works out or not but we now actually have an OC. Takes pressure off Day & opens the door to so many possibilities. We'll still recruit top tier WRs (lack depth) at a high level.

People saying Arthur Smith is a terrible hire for Ohio State. They just had Brian Hartline calling plays who had zero experience. Smith's experience alone and the ability to at minimum sequence plays is an instant upgrade over an OC who never called plays.

@JBook_37 Future seems pretty clear 1. Less $ will be spent on High School Recruits 2. More $ will be spent in the Transfer Portal / Maintaining Rosters 3. Any player not getting close to fair market value likely hits the Transfer Portal. Older experienced teams are thriving.

@RealisticBuck Kayden McDonald is in the 2023 class. DT is one of the most difficult positions to evaluate at the HS level. You need to take 3-4 per class, hope 1 is good. We see so many 5 star DT busts in CFB. That's why if you can have a superior OL and DL, you're usually an elite team.
