@OGG7uk @Oldcynic9 Yes… which I understand and sympathise with. However, anything i’ve written in this thread is about society in general, a personal anecdote is not going to sway my opinion and neither should it.

Is this Easter kick a pensioner weekend? It appears so from all the abuse we’re getting. 🙄can someone explain how I pay my bills & buy food with a house brick?

@OGG7uk @Oldcynic9 I understand and sympathise with that. But a class of cash poor and asset rich pensioners need to face reality of what society can afford - unfortunately it’s downsize first then we can have a civilised discussion about the indexing premiums we pay for the triple lock.

@PennyG39550068 @Oldcynic9 taking averages from your generation, obviously. Unless you can’t see past the end of your own nose, any policy change on the triple lock is about society as a whole and not some individual anecdote on twitter.

@Ohpalis @Oldcynic9 You have no idea what I have contributed- and not just in money.

@PennyG39550068 @Oldcynic9 If you got back exactly what you contributed you would be in serious financial trouble, which to be clear, nobody wants to see. The idea, though that working people today should be beholden to a generation who experienced a better set of economic circumstances forever is nuts.

@Ohpalis @Oldcynic9 Oh Martin you really are a nasty piece of work! How do you know how much any of us has contributed? BTW- I’m still ‘economically active’ still subject to exactly the same fuel, heating and otherbhikes as you. Still paying into the same system. What are your contributions champ ?

Yes I absolutely want to scrap the state pension. We need to engineer an economic model where people should be able to build enough wealth over 45 years to live off for their final 20. If we’re not moving towards that goal what the hell are we all playing at?!
Lord Moylan@danielmgmoylan

I always want to know what these people would replace the Triple Lock with and why it would always be cheaper. Or do they just (at heart) want to scrap pensions?

@Oldcynic9 I tend to think being selfish is the generation that experienced golden age capitalism pulling up the ladder on young people today, by expecting us to pay for your ever increasing demands. Make sure you don’t buy any lattes any time soon.

@Oldcynic9 Compared to the tax burden today, you basically didn’t. Although, investing in the young and the economically active is certainly the more logical route to improving our economy and overall life chances. Not chucking money at ‘Generation P&O Cruise’.

@Oldcynic9 Furthermore, you are an ever growing demographic of people that aren’t contributing back, you had it significantly better economically than any young person today. You didn’t pay a triple lock for pensioners when your generation was working. Why should we?

@Oldcynic9 No no I promise you, keep up the lack of avocado and cancel netflix, you won’t even need to resort to twitter to worry about your finances. Why should young people pay you, as a demographic, significantly more than you ever paid in? You don’t deserve priority over young people.

@simonwatt85 @YorkieYO work hard for wages that have flatlined in terms of real spending power since Thatcher, which i’ll have to assume you voted for. The generation which experienced the golden age of capitalism talking about hard work. Give me a break.

The National Living Wage is right now, £12.21 per hour. In a 35 hour week you will earn £427.35 so in a year it’s £22,222 Presumably they call it a living wage because that gives you enough to live on. A pensioner gets £10,000 less than that. Greedy blighters.

Reform UK increasingly looks like the Boomers' last dance politically. One final attempt to "turn Britain around" while committing to not do anything about its main problems, for fear of upsetting older generations. That approach will fail, and quickly, and then what?

@arthur_mp @IronDuke64 @Landeur what savings, i’m not seeing any savings here. This doesn’t even include the cost of benefits they receive NHS wise. How can we have an ever increasing ageing population whose benefits will constantly outpace the rate by which working people are being paid.

@Ohpalis @IronDuke64 @Landeur Yes, the money that they paid to HMRC for 40 years. When they need personal care, they will fund the care themselves. State and work pensions plus savings will be taken into account to fund the services. Adult's social care is not free for those with good incomes.

The most important people in any society are those who work. Without them, society falls apart. The pensioners die, the disabled die, and there is no next generation. It’s time for a serious party to put 20-60 year olds FIRST. Without them, there is no country.

Vast numbers of young British men and women have joined Restore Britain today. I want them all to have the same opportunities as my generation. Restore Britain was founded to make that happen, to deliver positive change that will long outlive me. That’s the objective.

@arthur_mp @IronDuke64 @Landeur is it their money? or is it benefits money paid out from current NI contributors. The bill is ballooning, it’s unsustainable, and this gerontocracy has to stop. Why should the elderly be prioritised funding wise as opposed to the young, as well as our public services.

If you oppose giving parents a bit of extra money to feed their kids, but support giving thousands a year to rich retirees, you probably need to give your head a wobble.
