You can’t separate it from sport when the alleged actions directly affect competition and trust in the league. Fairness, integrity and accountability are foundations of football, not optional extras. If consequences eventually come, they won’t be because of rivalry or bias they’ll come from decisions made by people within the club itself.

@David_Ornstein @TheAthleticFC Love him or hate him, Djed Spence showing this level of grit proves he wants to cement his future at Tottenham permanently. After all the loan spells and scrutiny over his attitude in the past, putting his body on the line like this completely silences the critics.

🚨 EXCL: Djed Spence suffered broken jaw during Tottenham Hotspur loss at Chelsea. 25yo right-back picked up injury in challenge with Liam Delap but expected to play for #THFC v Everton on last day of Premier League season in protective mask @TheAthleticFC nytimes.com/athletic/72983…

People blaming the medical department are missing the point. If a player explicitly tells the coaching staff he wants to put on a mask and fight for the badge after a tough loss to Chelsea, you have to respect the absolute elite mentality. This is exactly what Ange wants in his dressing room.

Is a 25-year-old risking further permanent facial damage for a match that ultimately doesn't change the trajectory of Tottenham's season actually admirable, or is the pressure of modern football culture just completely toxic? If he takes another hit to that jaw, the consequences are severe.

@David_Ornstein @TheAthleticFC Let's look at the cold facts, Spence playing through a broken jaw with a mask is going to make him a cult hero among Spurs fans, but it completely masks the deeper tactical issues. Tottenham shouldn't need an injured right-back to get over the line against Everton at home.

@David_Ornstein @TheAthleticFC No disrespect to Liam Delap, but younger forwards in England need to learn how to control their bodies better in aerial and physical duels. There’s a massive difference between holding your ground and causing structural facial damage to another professional.

Djed Spence has been one of the few bright spots in an otherwise highly inconsistent defensive block for Tottenham recently. The fact that his injury happened during a loss to Chelsea just adds insult to injury for a fanbase that is completely exhausted by this season's defensive errors.

@David_Ornstein @TheAthleticFC Respectfully, if this was any top-four side fighting for a trophy, the manager would rest him instantly. Risking Spence against Everton on the final day feels like a forced PR stunt to show "mentality" rather than a logical tactical decision. Give the academy kids a run instead.

Unpopular opinion: Liam Delap’s physical playstyle frequently crosses the line from "Premier League physicality" into being downright dangerous. This isn't just a standard collision; breaking an opponent's jaw during a challenge requires a level of reckless force that should have been heavily reviewed by VAR.

Terrible news for Spence, but let's look at the tactical reality, Spurs losing at Chelsea just completely exposed how thin Ange Postecoglou’s defensive depth actually is. Relying on a player wearing a protective mask for a broken jaw shows exactly why Tottenham needs a massive squad overhaul this summer.

Let’s be completely real: playing a professional football match with a literally broken jaw just to feature on the final day against Everton is incredibly reckless. No matter how much "pashun" fans want to see, the medical team shouldn't even be clearing this. A player's long-term health has to come before a dead-rubber final matchday.

@FabrizioRomano @BeanymanSports Such a beautiful human moment for Mikel and his family, but let’s not pretend Pep Guardiola didn't practically hand them the title with Man City’s bizarre late-season collapse. Arsenal were elite, but they got a massive safety net from Manchester this year.

🥺🏆 Mikel Arteta: “It’s one of the best feelings I’ve ever had. I couldn’t watch City game. I could hear noises from inside, then my son opened the door, ran towards me… …he was crying and he said ‘we are champions daddy!”. @BeanymanSports 🎥

@FabrizioRomano Chivas fans have every right to feel hurt by this. Winning 5 titles with the Rebaño Sagrado made him a club icon, and seeing him lead an direct rival like Monterrey just feels wrong. Modern football business truly has no room for sentimentality.

@FabrizioRomano Huge coup for Rayados, but his recent stint with Sevilla proved that his tactical approach struggles heavily when facing rigid, elite defensive blocks. Liga MX has evolved significantly since 2018. It’s a massive gamble to assume he’ll replicate his Chivas success instantly.
