@TheNotARubicon I use a number of Chinese radios of different makes and all work well and do everything I require. I know a number of people who have been introduced to to amateur radio because of them. Radio is there to enjoy irrespective of of the type of licence you possess. Robert G4PYR.

Ofcom consultation 'Updating the amateur radio licensing framework' opened today. According to Ofcom, consultation aims to “provide greater operating freedom for radio amateurs; and make process of getting and using a licence simpler, clearer and more responsive.” [1/2]

The first years of their marriage living in Birmingham were hell-- no one would speak to them, they couldn’t find anywhere to live because no one would rent to a black man, and they had no money. But they didn't give up. Gradually life became easier. Mary got teaching jobs, ending up as a deputy head teacher. Jake worked in a factory and then got a job at the Post Office. Slowly they made friends, but it was difficult. Mary used to tell people, "before I invite you to my home.... my husband is Black." Some would never talk to her again. Last year they celebrated their 74th anniversary and they are still very much in love, and never regretted what they did.'

@OldArkwright Definitely won’t clutter. We don’t really need more grass to mow so it will be partly wild. I don’t think we will be removing any of the imbedded rocks.

Landcapers came today and decluttered! I’ll have to find a before image. There was lots of poison ivy which prevented us from doing it. Now to imagine what to create!

@TheNotARubicon I think the most important reasons are 1. You want to and 2. You feel you will get something from the hobby. There is more to amateur radio than just communicating on a radio, but these days the hobby is promoted just about operating.

I really need to stop reading/watching the news, it's all about how awful things are going to get for people financially, they're ALREADY awful financially for me, have been for a while, hard to imagine it getting worse!!! xx 😀
