@KolderMike Hi Mike. Passive solar has proven to be a good concept but somewhat problematic in practice, with particular risk of summer overheating. Passivhaus has a good track record, taking some of the design concepts from passive solar but based on solid building physics

@Oli_Style Do passive solar homes work in a cold climate? I'm in partly cloudy zone 5 Iowa and considering building a super insulated Earthship style home. There's one group who strongly advocates for it, and another group who strongly doesn't, but who's right? Thanks

@EsTresidder That's awesome though...lot of heat gains there and you're keeping cool. Do you have any temp. & RH sensors & energy meters installed for monitoring?

@Oli_Style At the start of this hot weather, but when it was still relatively mild (highs of 25°), we made pizza for 14 people and had ten staying in the house. Also super midgy so we couldn't open the windows. Got a little warmer than I would've liked in the kitchen.

Well designed well-insulated🏡 perform better in 🥵🌞 & in ❄️🥶. My house today; indoor temp 22.6°, outdoor temp 28°, insulation, airtightness + MVHR working well to keep heat out. In poorly designed 🏡 insulation works against you & keeps heat in. highlandpassive.com/do-low-energy-…
