I was just in Oman.
The Switzerland of the Middle East.
But parallels don’t do justice to this fascinating country.
It also isn't a new Dubai. But this actually makes the case for Dubai even stronger.
Here are the key points:
Oman introduces a 5% personal income tax in 2028. The first GCC country to do it. But the threshold matters more than the headline.
The Golden Visa costs the same as Dubai's. But what you get is completely different. Undervalued real estate. A 15-year path to citizenship that the UAE doesn't offer. And access to a place that feels like actual Arabia.
For pure tax optimization and networking, Dubai wins. Nothing competes.
But Oman isn't competing. It's one hour away. Same region, completely different philosophy.
I wrote a full breakdown: who the 0% tax actually works for after 2028, the digital nomad visa play, why UAE residents should consider this as a Plan B, the free zone opportunities, and the honest limitations that are important to mention.
By the end, you'll understand why Oman makes your UAE life better without replacing it.

@thealepalombo Your reflection captures #Muscat beautifully—it really does feel like stepping into a parallel world compared to #Dubai. The slower rhythm, stronger sense of local identity, and the way #Oman balances tradition with modernity make it a refreshing contrast.

Just landed in Muscat, Oman. After years of never quite making it here, we thought this was the moment.
First impression: Dubai before the “dubaification.”
It’s a one-hour flight from Dubai, but feels like an alternate reality. Same 0% personal income tax (until 2028), but infinitely quieter and more local. The majority of the population is Omani.
Usually an escape for those living in the UAE, I think it could be a fantastic holiday or retreat destination for many more.
It’s also interesting to me because sometimes, to really understand a place, you need a nearby benchmark.
Visiting somewhere close with a completely different culture helps you see the choices each society made over the years much more clearly.
I’ll report more soon. Cheers.
