Chale, I support activism when it is constructive and focused on meaningful change. However, when it begins to target entire groups in ways that could ultimately harm our own society, we lose sight of that purpose. Ghana has laws and institutions to deal with wrongdoing, regardless of nationality. If there are concerns about undocumented migrants, the right approach is to advocate for strict enforcement of the law; not to incite public sentiment against Nigerians as a whole. the actions and messaging of the “Apax Concerned Youth group” are deeply concerning and nauseating. Mobilizing people to demand the removal of Nigerians and promoting exclusionary narratives is dangerous and counterproductive. We all dey here and we dey see similar patterns in South Africa now, where such sentiments have escalated into widespread xenophobia. This kind of rhetoric undermines Ghana’s reputation for unity and hospitality and should not be encouraged. I strongly think our focus should instead be on pressing national issues like galamsey, which poses a far greater threat to everyone living in Ghana. We must choose responsible advocacy over division and nonsense!
