Pupil Pals is one of our free befriending programmes. We work with primary schools to raise awareness of loneliness, and ask the children to create cards and artwork which we then send to our elderly clients. Young artists have produced hundreds of mini masterpieces to brighten up the lives of people in need, and we regularly receive lovely feedback from clients who receive the cards. Volunteers At Omega, we are lucky enough to work with volunteers from all walks of life, who help us support people experiencing loneliness and social isolation. This includes university students, who volunteer as telephone befrienders, pen pal befrienders or helping behind the scenes. Funding news We are delighted to start the new year with some great news – we have been awarded £20,000 by The National Lottery Community Fund towards our Chatterbox telephone befriending service! Omega’s Chatterbox service supports people experiencing profound loneliness, who are often housebound, with weekly friendly phone calls from one of our amazing volunteer befrienders. Welcome to all our new volunteers! We are really pleased to have recruited lots of new volunteers recently, who will be working with us as telephone befrienders and penpals, as well as interns who help us behind the scenes. Some of our new volunteers are students, who found us thanks to our collaboration with a number of universities including Manchester, Warwick, Southampton and others. Volunteering with Omega brings many advantages, whatever your stage of life - a chance to put a smile on someone’s face, to bring purpose to your day and to help develop new friendships, skills and knowledge. It can even enhance your CV when applying for jobs. Our volunteers all receive the training and information they need before beginning their role, as well as ongoing support whenever they need it.
