Last year, I made a promise to myself that sounded almost unbelievable every time I said it out loud. I told myself that somehow by all means possible, we would plant coffee across 640 acres a full square mile. There were many moments when the dream felt too big with challenges ranging from weather changes and limited resources to the pressure of helping different young people establish their farms properly. But today, I planted the very last seedlings of the square mile and for a moment I just stood there quietly realizing that what once felt impossible had finally become reality. What makes this achievement even more special is that these 640 acres are not owned by one individual or one big investor. This square mile has been built through many young people I have had the privilege to work with and support. Some planted 1 acre, others 2, 3, or 5 acres but together those small beginnings became something powerful. Every acre represents a young person who chose to believe that agriculture and coffee farming can truly change their future. This journey has taught me that real transformation happens when ordinary people decide to start even with something small. Acre by acre, seedling by seedling, village by village we built a square mile of coffee together. Seeing youths become proud farm owners and begin to see farming as a business and not a punishment has been one of the most rewarding parts of this journey. Now that the 1 square mile dream is complete the vision becomes even bigger. Next season, by the grace of God, the mission is to help youths plant 1 million coffee trees. Not just trees but opportunities, investment and hope for a generation that is slowly rediscovering the power of agriculture. The journey continues. So help me God.
