Despite the rain, I made time today to engage and share quality moments with corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Mbaukwu/Umuawulu, Awka South LGA of Anambra State. I never miss a chance to connect with young Nigerians on national service whenever I’m in any state during the orientation course. Their energy, discipline, and optimism always remind me why we must keep investing in our youth. The NYSC year is not just a call to serve, it’s a journey of learning, growth, and leadership. I encouraged them to see it as an opportunity to discover their potential and prepare for the future. Today, I visited Innoson in Nnewi, Anambra State, and doing so on a Monday carries deep symbolism. In a region where Mondays are often marked by “sit-at-home” restrictions, choosing to work, engage, and collaborate on such a day reflects our collective resolve to keep moving forward, no matter the challenges. Our delegation was warmly received and conducted round the factory by the Chairman and CEO, Chief Innocent Chukwuma (OFR), whose humility and hands-on commitment to Nigeria’s progress remain truly inspiring. His personal presence underscored not just leadership, but a profound sense of national duty. At Innoson, I witnessed the living proof of Nigerian innovation and resilience. I am happy to learn that the company is expanding into CNG Vehicle production and conversion, plastic manufacturing, tractor assembly, and even a rice mill, each representing new frontiers for job creation, industrial growth, and youth empowerment. I also interacted with some of the young Nigerians who have benefited from Innoson’s technical training and apprenticeship programmes, including two remarkable young women trained as auto-technicians. One continues to work at the factory, while the other has already established her own thriving workshop. Their stories beautifully capture the transformative power of skills and opportunity. What Chief Innocent Chukwuma has built is more than a company, it is a statement of belief that Nigerians can produce excellence. Together, we will expand that belief into a nationwide reality. As a natural outcome of this visit, we are working on a partnership with Innoson to scale youth training, apprenticeship, and enterprise development across Nigeria, especially within the automotive value chain and allied sectors. I seized the opportunity of the visit to also engage with the Anambra State Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Patrick Agha Mba, on how we can deepen collaboration between the Federal and State Governments, particularly to expand the reach and impact of the “1 Youth, 2 Skills” campaign. We'll Join Efforts To Ensure @Sommie_xo Did Not Die In Vain It is with profound sadness and deep shock that I received the devastating news of the untimely death of Ms. Somtochukwu Maduagwu, a 29-year-old model, lawyer, and shining star in Nigeria’s media landscape, who lost her life under heartbreaking circumstances during a robbery attack in her Abuja home. Somtochukwu was more than a journalist; she embodied the brilliance, resilience, and promise of Nigeria’s youth. Her voice on Arise Television inspired many, her passion for justice reflected in her legal career, and her poise as a model symbolized the creativity of our generation. To lose her in this manner is not only a tragedy to her family and friends, but also a piercing wound to the nation. What makes her passing even more painful are the harrowing accounts that her death could have been prevented if help had come in time. A young woman with so much vision and potential should never have been lost this way. This compels us as a government to act with greater urgency to confront insecurity, strengthen public safety, and ensure accountability in our institutions. On behalf of the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, I extend heartfelt condolences to Somtochukwu’s family, colleagues, and the media community. But beyond our grief, we will join efforts with relevant authorities, stakeholders, and communities to ensure that her death is not in vain. Somtochukwu’s story is now a national call to action, to build a Nigeria where no young person’s dream is cut short by violence or systemic failure. Her light, though extinguished too soon, must inspire us to guarantee that our youths live, thrive, and fulfill their destinies in safety and dignity. May her soul rest in peace, and may her legacy strengthen our resolve for a safer and more hopeful Nigeria.

Today, we took a pause to review our progress at the Ministerial Retreat of the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, holding at the Blu Spring Hotel, Abuja. The retreat presents an opportunity for reflection, accountability, and renewed commitment to Nigeria’s young people.

Oluremi Mi, As you celebrate your 65th birthday today, I honour not only the love of my life, but also a woman whose quiet strength and enduring grace have been my steadying anchor. Through every season, from the long years of struggle and political exile, to leadership responsibilities, you have stood firmly by my side with dignity, patience, and devotion that words can scarcely express. You are more than my wife. You are my confidant, counsellor, and the steady flame illuminating my path. This morning, in keeping to my commitment yesterday, I had the privilege of delivering the Opening Remarks at the Africa Youth Health Summit (AYHS) 2025, hosted at the United Nations House, Abuja. I reminded delegates that Africa’s greatest asset is its young people, our health, well-being, and innovative spirit are the foundation of the continent’s future. I was proud to announce the creation of a new Department of Youth and Mental Health in our Ministry, a bold step to place youth health at the heart of national and continental development. Later in the day, I welcomed the leadership of the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA), led by Mrs. Oghogho Musa, to my office. Their work in supporting widows, empowering youth, and uplifting families in the barracks is inspiring. I received international delegates and representatives from IFMSA, IPSF, Africa CDC, AU, UN Nigeria, WHO, and other partners on a pre-summit courtesy visit to the Ministry of Youth Development, ahead of the Africa Youth Health Summit. Nigeria is proud to host tomorrow’s summit, which places youth action at the center of Africa’s health priorities. Likd I have said repeatedly, and many agreed, the youth of Nigeria are our country's greatest asset. We must, therefore, do everything possible to improve their health in order to guarantee their productivity. Through interventions like the Yo! Health Initiative and the newly established Department of Youth Health, Mental and Psychosocial Affairs (YHMPA) in the Ministry, we are working with over 35 partners to strengthen youth-led health action, address mental health, and align with Agenda 2063 and the SDGs. Tomorrow’s summit is about youth as leaders and innovators, not just beneficiaries. We count on our partners’ expertise and the creativity of young delegates to shape policies that will drive a healthier and more prosperous Nigeria and Africa. I began the day with a productive meeting with the new Director-General of the Citizenship and Leadership Training Center, Dr. @RinsolaAbiola, where we explored ways to deepen interface between the Ministry of Youth Development and the Center in shaping responsible, value-driven youth leadership. Both parties explored opportunities for joint initiatives, including leadership camps, youth bootcamps, civic education drives, and integration of character development modules into existing Ministry programs.

She highlighted ongoing efforts by the CLTC to modernize its training curriculum and facilities, with a vision to make its programs more accessible and relevant to today’s youth.

Today, the Hon. Minister of Youth Development, Com. @ayowisdom_, received in audience the leadership team of the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre (CLTC), led by the Director-General, Ms. @RinsolaAbiola.

Today, I received in audience organizations working in health and humanitarian sectors, as well as youth-led associations who desire collaborations to enhance their capacity to better serve their beneficiaries and members, many of whom are youth. Our shared ideals were reflected in the forward-looking conversations that we had. For the Association for Students' Social Welfare Nigeria, I emphasized that the Student Loan Fund was a glaring testimony of the commitment of our government to the welfare of students. I therefore encourage the association to continue to partner with the government, sensitize their members on all youth-focused interventions of the Government, and continue to collaborate for greater impact. For the Okapi Children Cancer Foundation, I applauded the impressive effort of the foundation to protect the health of children and young adults, particularly those suffering from the debilitating sickness of cancer. I pledged my continued support to aid the work of the foundation and enhance its impact. For the Pan African Humanitarian Leadership Award, I commended the delegation for encouraging a deeper commitment to humanitarian efforts in Nigeria, observing that their activities would inspire and encourage more individuals and organisations to rededicate themselves to the service of humanity. Finally, I hosted the Niger Delta Progressive Youth Leaders Foundation, where we discussed the importance of building bridges of unity, advancing peace, and empowering the youth of the Niger Delta to contribute meaningfully to national development. I assured them of the Ministry’s readiness to support initiatives that promote inclusiveness, skills development, and positive engagement of young people across the region.
