An eventful week for @OneVirology - Cristobal Castillo passed his PhD viva and Dr Ola Elbohy left for pastures new (University of Oxford) after 6 years with us (staying on after her PhD for a postdoc position). We wish both Cristobal and Ola all the best for their futures.

This week @OneVirology members hosted Dr Maria Augusta Arruda, Director of the Brazilian Biosciences National Laboratory (@BiotecLNBio). She introduced the LNBio/CNPEM complex and the exciting Orion project, which will bring a synchrotron light source into a BSL4 facility.

Funding success for @BattyBoffin who has been awarded £345k by the Leverhulme Trust to further her work combining harnessing OrbiSIMS technology to bridge the gap between high-resolution molecular imaging and precise structure determination for RNAs.

Congratulations to Oliver Boakye for winning the Judges’ Vote for Best Poster for a second year running at the School of Biosciences Symposium for his poster on structural and functional studies of African horse sickness virus to engineer a protein-based vaccine prototype.

Congratulations to members of @OneVirology (postdoc Karina Bingham and technician Sophie Galloway) whose award of Associate Fellow membership via the Nottingham Recognition Scheme has been ratified by the Higher Education Academy.

Congratulations to @OneVirology PhD student Jack Morton on being awarded the prize for Best Presentation (MRes/MVM/PhD 1st/2nd year) at the @NottinghamVets postgraduate symposium. Jack's interdisciplinary PhD is on arenavirus-based anti-cancer virotherapy.

The second event featured @CVRHutchinson Prof Ed Hutchinson from the MRC-University of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research and @UoNPressOffice's Charlotte Wall. They shared insights on science communication, public engagement and media relations.

The first event, Bridging Virology across the Midlands, brought together over 90 virologists from the Universities of Birmingham, Keele, Leeds, Leicester, NTU, De Montfort and Warwick to foster connections and showcase research by early career virologists.
