Globally, women's sports only receive 4% of all sports media coverage, yet over 40% of all sports participants are women. (@UNESCO) Our Counsellor, @StanwayGeorgia (MBE), star footballer for @FCBfrauen and England’s @Lionesses, believes closing this gap starts with funding and long-term support. According to the FIFA Women’s Football Member Associations Survey in 2023, more countries are investing in women’s football than ever before — but many federations still report limited resources and infrastructure. When investment and visibility increase, participation follows. Georgia saw this first-hand when the Lionesses’ historic @UEFA European Championship win in 2022 shifted belief across England. In England, from 2020 to 2024: ⚽ Participation among women and girls in football increased by 56% 🧑‍⚖️ Female referees increased by 113% (Source: The Football Association) Around the world, the same lesson is clear: when women’s sport is supported, it grows. But there is more to do. The question is not whether girls can succeed. The question is whether systems will support them to succeed. Equal talent deserves equal investment. 🌍 @WEURO2025 @FIFAWWC

Women receive only 0.1% of global aid. That’s the reality for women’s rights and women-led organisations. They are often working on the frontlines of humanitarian response and peacebuilding, yet only 0.1% of global aid reaches them directly (@Oxfam, 2025) As conflict continues to disproportionately impact women and girls, funding cuts are pushing many frontline women’s organisations to the brink. Nuclear weapons or humanity. We can’t have both. ☢️ When the atomic bomb destroyed Nagasaki, it devastated the entire country, killing thousands and altering the DNA of millions, putting them at health risks transcending generations. Our Counsellor, Shigemitsu Tanaka, was four and one of the children who survived. Today, he is the Co-Chairperson of Nihon Hidankyo, a Nobel Peace Prize-winning organisation that advocates for a world free of nuclear weapons through survivor testimony, so history doesn’t repeat itself. His message is clear: nuclear weapons and humanity cannot coexist. The consequences are not abstract. They are living. They are generational. They are devastating. We must listen. We must learn. Nobel Peace Prize Winner and One Young World Counsellor, Narges Mohammadi has been held in detention by Iranian authorities since December 2025. Credible reports detail physical abuse, ongoing life‑threatening mistreatment and no medical care for suspected breast cancer. We support The Norwegian Nobel Committee's demand for her immediate and unconditional release and guarantee her access to independent, safe and professional care. We were privileged to welcome her (virtually) to the One Young World Summit 2025 in Munich, where she spoke of her hope for the future of human rights in Iran. Despite the constant threats of violence and imprisonment, Narges continues to speak out about injustices and human rights violations in the hope of bringing freedom and peace to the people of Iran. Women represent less than one-third of the world’s researchers, and only one in ten STEM leaders is a woman. (@UNESCO ) 🧪 That gap is exactly what Dora Palfi Osika is working to close. Our Ambassador and @Deloitte Scholar from 2022, Dora recognised early on that access to coding and AI education is not equal. So she built Imagi, an education platform designed to make technology inclusive for everyone. Since One Young World’s Lead2030 Challenge in 2022, Imagi has: 🤖 Reached over 400,000 learners 🌍 Built a community across more than 170 countries Dora shows us that when young leaders are supported, they can spark change that reaches the world. Justice Albie Sachs is joining us as a Counsellor at the One Young World Summit 2026 in Cape Town. 🌍 Politically active from the age of 17, Albie devoted his life to dismantling apartheid through the law, defending people charged under racist statutes and repressive security laws. After apartheid agents bombed his car in Mozambique in 1988, causing him to lose an arm and sight in one eye, his response was not withdrawal, but a deeper commitment to justice without vengeance. Albie’s legal reasoning placed dignity, equality and humanity at the centre of democracy. Some of his transformative achievements include: 🇿🇦 Shaping South Africa’s new constitutional order after more than 20 years in exile. 👨‍⚖️ Being personally appointed by Nelson Mandela in 1994 as a founding judge of the Constitutional Court, where he served until 2009. ⚖ Ending capital punishment in South Africa. 🌈 Ruling to legalise same-sex marriage in South Africa in 2005 - making it the first country in Africa and fifth in the world to do so!
