Through his organisation @connectWPDI, he now works with young people in communities affected by conflict — including in South Africa — supporting skills, opportunity, and leadership pathways that last beyond a single moment on stage. We are honoured to announce that Vladimir Kara-Murza and Evgenia Kara-Murza will join the One Young World Summit Cape Town, 2026, as Counsellors! 🇿🇦 A leading Russian opposition figure, Vladimir has advanced international sanctions against Kremlin officials. After speaking out against Russia's invasion of Ukraine, he was sentenced to 25 years in prison. During his imprisonment, Evgenia led international advocacy for his case and for political prisoners across Russia, sustaining global attention on these issues. Globally, women's sports only receive 4% of all sports media coverage, yet over 40% of all sports participants are women. (@UNESCO) Our Counsellor, @StanwayGeorgia (MBE), star footballer for @FCBfrauen and England’s @Lionesses, believes closing this gap starts with funding and long-term support. According to the FIFA Women’s Football Member Associations Survey in 2023, more countries are investing in women’s football than ever before — but many federations still report limited resources and infrastructure. When investment and visibility increase, participation follows. Georgia saw this first-hand when the Lionesses’ historic @UEFA European Championship win in 2022 shifted belief across England. In England, from 2020 to 2024: ⚽ Participation among women and girls in football increased by 56% 🧑‍⚖️ Female referees increased by 113% (Source: The Football Association) Around the world, the same lesson is clear: when women’s sport is supported, it grows. But there is more to do. The question is not whether girls can succeed. The question is whether systems will support them to succeed. Equal talent deserves equal investment. 🌍 @WEURO2025 @FIFAWWC

Women receive only 0.1% of global aid. That’s the reality for women’s rights and women-led organisations. They are often working on the frontlines of humanitarian response and peacebuilding, yet only 0.1% of global aid reaches them directly (@Oxfam, 2025) As conflict continues to disproportionately impact women and girls, funding cuts are pushing many frontline women’s organisations to the brink. To achieve sustainable peace around the world, funding women-led organisations cannot be an afterthought – it has to be the starting point. 👉 Stand with women peacebuilders: speak about their initiatives, direct your donations to women-led organisations on the frontline, and question your government’s military spending.
