Does anyone else who has @Starlink notice that the actual speed of things loading on social media is slow even when the network speed is very fast?

name a single $599 windows laptop that has all that. even better, name a $599 windows laptop that has the MacBook Neo’s performance, efficiency, build quality, display quality, and an OS that isn’t full of bloat and ads. then we can talk.

@andrewjclare I'm a lot more than your average user and I've never had a problem with my Windows laptop that has 8GB of RAM.

Things I’ve learned since the Macbook Neo was announced: - Turns out even a $499 MacBook can be controversial. - According to tech twitter, 8gb of ram isn’t enough for note taking, opening up a website and running the ChatGPT app at the same time. - everyone really did want colorful MacBooks - Android users are defending windows - Steve Jobs would have approved this - the iPad Air is cooked - Rest in peace Chromebooks - people think an iPhone chip is bad - If edit 8K video while rendering a 3D animation, while exporting a podcast, running 100 Chrome tabs, Final Cut, Blender, and still checking email like nothing’s happening, during simulating an entire city in a game engine just to test shadows and running four external displays while the fans barely wake up… the Neo is not for you.

@jmwilt21 The main reason I'd probably buy the neo over the M1 MBA is because they will support it for a lot longer. If it weren't for that, the M1 is the better machine

This sums up everything nicely. The M1 MacBook Air is as good or better than the Neo and came out 6 years ago. Sure it launched at $1000 compared to $600, but $400 less for a laptop that at best matches a 6 year old base model? I'm not really seeing the value. It's fine, but it's not special. The M1 MacBook Air 8gb did not age all that well due to ram limitations. The Neo won't magically do any better.

@rsuyoy People are massively underestimating what you can do with 8GB of RAM.

No, an 8GB of ram laptop is not “only for web browsing” you can code with it you can do graphic design you can do video editing you can run photoshop you can multitask Tech bros are subject to a massive bias where not a single one of them has tried an 8 GB of RAM computer in the last 5 to 10 years because they all default to thinking they’re unusable when they’re actually perfectly fine. it’s fine. mostly.

@TheGalox_ In my opinion, this machine should absolutely be able to handle anything 90% of people want to do. My main machine for the past few months has been the base model iPad, and even with light photo and video editing I've not felt it slow down any. And it has an A16 chip and 6GB RAM

MacBook Neo is worth it It’s worth it for students, for users that might be on 2018 or older Macs that simply browse and watch content, as a first laptop… If you are someone that is considering evolving with your new laptop to higher workloads, I suggest you look at M powered MacBooks Airs. More than the extra performance and features, it’s the future proofing that brings over the Neo. There will be compromises for $499, but in the end it’s a solid and colorful little machine that the market needed to continue improving in areas previously forgotten by other companies.

@jmwilt21 @SarahBurssty I like the Chromebooks that support installing Android apps (not all of them do). The ones that don't are paperweights if you don't have Internet

@SarahBurssty What's the problem with Chromebooks? I'm convinced either you haven't used one or it was kike $150 from 5 years ago. You can get a solid Chromebook plus for $300 now and they give a good experience.

But honestly, Samsung's website not only has a horrible user interface. The entire experience doesn't feel as polished as Apple. Not even remotely close. Even the websites of those Chinese brands are more neatly designed.

@jmwilt21 That's the one thing I think they could've done differently. It weighs the same as the Mba. They easily could've pulled off a device as thin and light as the 12" since it's using an iPhone chip

Holy cow.. I can't believe Apple finally did it, a MacBook for the masses. I had always wished they'd bring back something akin to the old 12" MacBook Now I feel horrible for buying a brand new iPad and magic keyboard two months ago 🫠

Like Google, with the Pixel. They took away our unlimited photo backups but make it a thorn in your ass if you don't pay for cloud storage and significantly degrade the experience... I literally just want to store my stuff on my device itself. Even Apple makes it way easier

My biggest problem with companies forcing us to pay for cloud storage is that they're making it a huge pain in the ass to just locally store things on your device storage...

I’ve gotta say the deep blue on the iPhone 17 Pros looks super clean. Best blue pro iPhone they’ve made since the 12 Pro pacific blue (which I owned, and ironically was the worst iPhone experience I’ve ever had)

@jmwilt21 They should’ve just kept the pro at that price point. And I might just be out of touch but absolutely NOBODY was asking for a super thin iPhone either. It might be some technological marvel but most people aren’t going to care about that

I believe once the honeymoon phase wears off with the iPhone Air, a majority of the people who bought it will find themselves regretting the purchase. We all were happy when Apple started making thicker phones with more features and larger batteries. It's been so long since they've made a super thin phone that many people forget that most people don't care how thin the phone is. You really forget about the thickness once you've been using it for a little bit and aren't comparing it to other devices. It's very cool and I'm sure it will grab attention in stores, but for most people the base model or the Pro is the way to go.

Apple’s new Pro iPhones have a new aggressive design language, abandoning the elegance of the Jonny Ives era. Do you like this design change?
