After Messi retires, Argentina will struggle but they will qualify for World Cup. Balance will be restored to South American football. Portugal may not qualify. If not that they expanded World Cup teams which made group qualifiers easier for Portugal, they were always qualifying through play-off despite having CR7. Na him go still score the goals for play-off. With Jota dead and CR7 retiring, there is no reliable goal scorer in the team.

There is nothing you will say that will Justify the fact that the entire team was ass. First half they isolated Ronaldo and second half they try to get him involved.
