ペンタゴンと教皇庁のやり取りの中で、アヴィニョン教皇庁の話が出てきた、というのは若干の驚き。少なくともペンタゴンにはアヴィニョン教皇庁がなんだったのかを理解している人がいるということだな。おそらくヘグセスではない。

Something about the Rosary with the Pope saddened me.
I know it may seem like a trivial thing. But if we think about it carefully, it carries great symbolic meaning.
The Pope called the entire Church to pray the Rosary for peace. Many pilgrims were present, and Catholics of all nationalities followed online.
What saddened me, however? The entire Rosary—not only the meditation on the mysteries—was recited in Italian. Someone might say, “What’s wrong with that? The Pope is in Italy and he is the Bishop of Rome.”
Yes, that is true. The Pope is the Bishop of Rome. However, on this occasion the Bishop of Rome was united with the whole Church—with Catholics of every language—praying together for peace.
But in what language should they have prayed? In English? No. In my opinion, the Hail Marys and Our Fathers should have been prayed in Latin. How so? Let me explain.
Latin is not the language of one country or a specific nation, but the language of the Church—a sign of unity for the entire Western Catholic people that transcends time and space. Praying in Latin today would mean praying “with the whole Church” in the language of our Church, of our Spiritual Family.
Moreover, it would have been a great lesson for a world divided by wars between nations: the Church, like Latin, is a sign of unity and peace among nations, where an international language appears as the bond that unites peoples of different cultures but joined in the same faith.
Peace seeks unity, and unity also needs harmony in words.
Latin does not divide, nor does it generate envy; rather, it appears as a symbol of unity not only among nations but also with the past and future history of the Church, as John XXIII said in Veterum Sapientia.
I hope we Catholics come to understand the importance of rediscovering, in simple Hail Marys and Our Fathers prayed in Latin, the power of the unity and peace that come from Christ and His Church.
Long live the Pope!

An old tired-looking dog wanders into a guy's yard. He examines the dog's collar and feels his well-fed belly and knows the dog has a home.
The dog follows him into the house, goes down the hall, jumps on the couch, gets comfortable and falls asleep. The man thinks its rather odd, but lets him sleep. After about an hour the dog wakes up, walks to the door and the guy lets him out. The dog wags his tale and leaves.
The next day the dog comes back and scratches at the door. The guy opens the door, the dog comes in, goes down the hall, jumps on the couch, gets comfortable and falls asleep again. The man lets him sleep. After about an hour the dog wakes up, walks to the door and the guy lets him out. The dog wags his tale and leaves.
This goes on for days. The guy grows really curious, so he pins a note on the dog's collar: "Your dog has been taking a nap at my house every day."
The next day the dog arrives with another note pinned to his collar: "He lives in a home with four children -- he's trying to catch up on his sleep. Can I come with him tomorrow?'

Marc Thiessen just published a piece saying if Iran does not accept Trump's terms, eliminate the negotiating team. The same people who were spared specifically to come talk.
You invited them. They came. Pakistan shut down its entire capital for this. And some guy in Washington with a keyboard and zero skin in the game is writing columns about killing diplomats while they are still at the table.
This is disgusting. There is no other word for it.
You want to know why nobody trusts American diplomacy? This. Right here. You push for talks, someone shows up, and your newspapers start printing assassination wish lists before the first session is even over.
If Iran walks away from this table tomorrow, nobody should wonder why.
