The Executive Committee of the South African Guild of Mobility Journalists (SAGMJ) extends our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Thabo Sifumba (@SifumbaOnWheels) following his tragic and unexpected passing on 21 December 21 2025. Thabo joined the SAGMJ in 2023 and demonstrated strong potential as a rising young content creator. His passion for motoring was always evident, and his friendly demeanour and enthusiasm for the South African Car of the Year competition (where he volunteered with the logistics team in both 2024 and 2025) will be fondly remembered throughout the Guild. Information about the memorial service or other arrangements will be shared when it becomes available.

Last week, we – the jury members of the SA Guild of Mobility Journalists (@SAGMJ) for the 2026 Car of the Year (COTY) competition powered by @OldMutualInsure – were presented with 55 new models eligible for the 2026 COTY title. After evaluating the field, we cast our votes for the semi-finalists. This morning, we are pleased to announce that 30 vehicles have made it through to the 2026 COTY semi-final round. In January 2026, we will vote again to narrow this list down to the 15 finalists.
