AI can only support trustworthy research if the science behind it is open, traceable, and accountable. Many AI tools still operate as black boxes. That creates a real problem for research, where transparency, reproducibility, and scrutiny are not optional. And when AI is trained on opaque or limited sources, bias becomes harder to detect and harder to challenge. There is also a bigger infrastructure issue. Much of scholarly communication was not built for the AI era. Repositories, metadata, APIs, and legal frameworks all need to evolve if AI is to be used responsibly in research.
