To break the techno-permacrisis, we need: ⚫ Interoperability, where people can move social media platforms while carrying their followers with them. ⚫ Digital Sovereignty, where our digital infrastructure is run on homegrown open source software – 'Public Money, Public Code'.

Even if it's voluntary, Digital ID still creates a surveillance infrastructure. This could be expanded later on as a requirement to access public services. As we've seen with eVisas, digitalising interactions with the State without physical backups creates serious problems.

The climbdown over mandatory Digital ID is a victory for ORG and other groups that warned of the threats to everyone's civil liberties. BUT questions still remain. Despite this U-turn, neither the scheme nor the giant pricetag have gone away entirely. theguardian.com/politics/2026/…

We need more transparency about when and how AI is used in the asylum process. We need to know what safeguards are in place to prevent errors and who's accountable when AI gets it wrong. Without these vulnerable people will be harmed and these tools will be rolled out further.

The use of AI tools to clear the asylum backlog prioritises speed over accuracy. The Home Office’s own evaluation reveals that 9% of AI-generated summaries were so flawed they had to be removed from the pilot. And 23% of caseworkers lacked full confidence in the tools’ outputs.
